    Re: CNC Spray painting

    Is this topic still alive?

I have recently built a rotating paint brush attachment for my CNC router table....

Did anyone solve this? I upgraded to grbl1_v1 and since then no movement.

    Junk box router table, questions.

Hi, I am building a CNC router table from parts on hand!

The table is 2000mm x 900mm. A steel gantry loves along the long axis and carries the Z axis assemble which has about 150mm travel.

    The...

    Re: Motor steps versus backlash?

    Thanks for the comments.

The stepper I will be using is actually a Fisher and Paykel washing machine motor, slightly rewired, which steps at 112 steps and has bags of torque.

    This morning I...

    Re: Motor steps versus backlash?

Thanks for the comments. Seems I should be looking for a minimal backlash gearing stage of at least 20:1 and I have a worm and wheel which I might be able to fit, it will be more than 20:1

    I am...

    Motor steps versus backlash?

I am building my first cnc router table, 900mm x 2100mm and will be using roller chains as drive for the X axis.

Direct connecting my stepper motor to a drive sprocket would give a movement per...
  8. Re: How avoid twist bridge of my cnc router?

I am still building my first cnc router table, 900mm x 2100mm, and I really hope the cable method will work as I am driving one side with cables to keep the gantry 'square' to the table. I hope it...
  9. Re: Newbie first steps with cnc router table.

After some period of time chasing up dead ends I find that the steps per revolution of these motors is 112 which is 8 times the number of coils. The one I have runs quite nicely on a 3 phase stepper...
  10. Re: Cable, chain, belt drive concept for long axis movement.

    Arithmetic, yes, very interesting.....
  11. Re: Newbie first steps with cnc router table.

I have made a bit of progress on this project!

The basic table has been welded up and I have received a driver for 3 phase steppers which I have tested with a Fisher and Paykel washing machine...
  12. Re: Cable, chain, belt drive concept for long axis movement.

    Hi Talonosi..

The chain is moving much faster than the gantry, more than 40:1 in the example I gave so maybe any errors coming from irregularities in the chain or sprockets would be divided by 40?
  13. Re: Cable, chain, belt drive concept for long axis movement.

    Thanks for the comments...

I am sorry if my explanation is not clear. This is what Wiki has to say about the differential pulley (which I know as an endless chain hoist).....

Sorry, I originally posted this in the wrong place, I hope this is more appropriate!

I trust this provides food for thought!

  16. Re: Newbie first steps with cnc router table.

Thanks Andrew, unfortunately I must be wary of expensive options which I think would include pairs of 2 metre feed screws and racks. I am even considering the cable technique as described here...
  17. Newbie first steps with cnc router table.

I took the expensive route to get started and bought a kit of 3 steppers, NEMA 23, 1.8Nm along with drivers, break out board, power supply and Linux software preconfigured for CNC EMC2 etc.

    All...

    Smart Drive?

Just thinking about a CNC router project and of course the question of stepper motor comes up immediately. Has anyone been using Fisher & Paykel Smart Drive motors as humungous steppers?
