Regardless of what the supplier stated, I always use ramp tests to determine the correct focus. My point was that the two lenses had very different focus points. But the info you posted is valid and...
About once a year, it seems, I manage to destroy a lens. It happened again a few days ago. (See attached image.)
I ordered a new one from LightObject.com, but went for a higher quality lens this...
You could use a water jet, but don't see the pint of spending the money for it.
Performance has been perfect.
I now have all three mirrors replaced. They work great, no loss of power, and extremely easy to clean without damaging.
FYI - The LightObject DSP
Does not require a Dongle
Has free software with it (LaserCAD)
Has it own control panel
Is stand alone - not needing dedicated connected computer
IF you have...
Reset your Cut Mode in the Control Panel Settings - default is to position by Panel (controller) setting which means it always goes to the current origin. Change it to software if you want it to be...
I just tried the link and it worked fine. I also checked the blog and there have been 22 hits from here this morning, so it must be working for some. If anyone else finds differently, please let us...
That's right! A friend over at BuildLog.net (Walt) introduced the idea of making emergency replacement mirrors from an old harddrive disk. I took on the task of putting the idea to a test. WOW! It...
Adjust your drawings to compensate for the width of your "kerf" (beam width).
It simply means that, because the glass is transparent you cannot see the detail. Putting something behind it allows the detail to be seen.
Try back-painting the glass and see what that looks...
When engraving glass, you are not vaporizing the material, as you do with wood, paper, etc. You are actually fracturing the glass by exploding air trapped inside. Therefore, the resolution of your...
I see that the chart does say in/sec, but I don't believe it. I have used this with a 40w laser and cannot image going that fast. That is over 8 feet per second. When I use it, it is more in the...
ipm * 25.4 / 60 = mm/sec
91 * 25.4 / 60 = 38.5 mm/sec
So, first test for you should be about 40 mm/s at 50%. Then adjust from there.
LightObject.com sells an 18mm lens for about $50US. Depending on your lens holder, the 18 may work as well as the 20. It did for me.
Here is what I got using the GoldMethod I referred to earlier. I did it at 300 DPI. (Note, depending on your machine, that may not be the correct resolution. If a chinese import, it may need 254 to...
I have used this with great success.
Laser Goodies
And it is FREE!
Check the length of the graphic to engrave. If the name you are engraving would be longer than about 220mm (approximate circumference of 70mm diameter object), then it may be telling you it won't fit...
Thanks! That is perfect.
Any chance you could save as x4 and share that?
Unless you have a volt meter in your circuit for measuring what you are actually feeding the ps, the pwm will be much more accurate. You will always know that 50% = 2.5v for example. It is more...
I don't use/know EMC, but as Tweakie said, the spindle controller will not provide you with what you want of firing the laser.
Over at MachSupport, I wrote a detailed explanation of how to fire...
What version of Corel was that done in? X4 will not recognize it.
I sent you a PM.
Where in Iowa - I am in Coralville (Iowa City area).
As I said, I did two pieces. First one worked great and held up well to normal wear (it was a denim bag). I did not wash it.
The other one was over powered and even without washing, began to...
I have not tried it but have seen laser work done on microfiber materials from a sewing/fabric store. Can be nice for custom covers for books, etc. Very "rich" feel/look.

I have tried this in the past. My first try worked quite well - although it was simple wording and not a photo image.
My second try did not do as well - I got it too hot - scorched the material so...
This looks interesting, and certainly seems more affordable than anything else I have seen. I have been looking, and trying to decide what route to go for several months now and this looks like it...
FYI - Marco's current DSP uses the PHCad software.
