Mr. Shaver is a classic case of " Better late than never" His offer comes just 3 years and 9 days after Legion first posted his unhappiness. Back in the 19th century you could have put the offer...
It all sounds good, but reading the posts on this forum from people who have bought in the last couple years, they still find all sorts of mechanical problems, dirt and metal shavings in the bearings...
The Shopmaster is designed as a CNC machine from the ground up and comes to you complete with the pre-configured PC- basically a turn key machine. The Smithy is essentially just a 3 in 1 machine...
Being just a " bot", I did a little search and found only 2 posts by Mr. Shaver on this forum. This thread and the one where he was defending one of their lathes
...
I'll bet Mr. Shaver will get a nice Thank you card from Tormach. Not only did his post make the competition ( Smithy ) look foolish, it distracted people from a long thread about a Tormach machine...
Then there's still hope- maybe someday we will see SMITHY ELECTRIC the leading producer of wiring harnesses for Tormach.
A good analogy- where is Packard now?
That's hilarious- Mr. engineering genius buys a Smithy- the cheapest one in their line up too.
I'm waiting to see how it takes for this thread to disappear all together. Tormach pays a lot of advertising here.
I just replaced the nuts on my X axis- called Shoptask and had them in 2 days.
If tolerances in the 0.001-002" range are Ok, you should look at the Shopmaster
Shoptask - Shopmaster
For closer tolerances you will need to step up to something like a tormach or Haas mini.
Agreed- pretty impressive for a machine under 5K.
OK- who is your USA dealer and how do I contact them?
Chevalier,
Be wary of Good CNC and any other Chinese supplier who asks for payment or a big deposit in advance. I wanted to order a machine and they promised 30-45 day delivery and asked for full...
If he removes the tary, the machine will no longer be perfectly warped.
This is going to be fun when he trys to get the thing running.
Good luck getting ahold of anyone.

There may be some positives to come out of this whole mess. If you were really planning to purchase 10 more units, I would suggest that you take whatever functioning tools you have available, repair...
These are Chinese machines, which tells anyone exactly what they should expect. The real issue with Syil is that they have terrible customer service and they have made the mistake of dumping all of...
I don't think that is a problem. If you have been reading other posts on this forum, you will see that its a strong possibility that the control box will simply fall off the machine and land on...
At least you can take comfort in knowing that you received one of their better units.
Maybe I misread your post- I thought it was another of those Cad-Cam fantasies where they drone on for months and years with endless calculations about the distance to the moon divided by the square...
[QUOTE=jestah;969609]wow man, thanks for the encouragement! buying a ready made mill is not an option as I want to build it so I can fix it when it brakes down!
Sorry to throw water on your fire,...
There are a bunch of these CAD-CAM drawing projects already on this board. They are nothing more than an exercise in talking about some fantasy. Just buy yourself a ready made small mill and hook...
YOU THINK ???!!!
Maybe you should check and find out for sure since they are your agent.
Successfully posted on his China/Singapore/Malaysia computer.
If you are looking for a machine to do work with, then you are headed down the wrong path. Converting that machine to CNC will be a long project, with questionable functionality when its finished. ...
The Smithy Granite series machines are also made in the same factory as the Harbor Freight 3 in 1.
OK- That looks almost identical to the Smithy Midas machine- they are probably from the same factory, so if the geniuses at Harbor Freight can't help, Smithy probably could.
Anyway, if you want to...
What is it- Smithy, Grizzly, Shoptask, Harbor Freight- They all have their own forums- if you don't know, post some pictures.
