I was at a defunct GE plant in Chicago today and saw something incredible. I decided to share it here, perhaps someone would enjoy the mammoth size of this CNC machine.

I picked it up early this week, dismantled today. case closed. It seems that this machine is worth more dead than alive!

25 inches swing, 39 inches between centers. Has an old Fanuc GN6 controller and, most likely, DC servo motors. Weighs appx. 10k lbs.

Running condition is UNKNOWN, since I do not have it yet. But...

Matt, just FYI, the spindle runs great, the oil tank is full of oil, the brake also works great. It is the motion that I cannot figure out despite all the great help.

Matt, that button appears to be slightly busted on my mill. If I press it with a screwdriver, nothing seems to happen when I jog.

Spindle increase and decrease work by operating the four way air solenoid, which, in turn, operates a pneumatic motor. The motor turns a screw that adjusts the ratio of vari-speed pulleys.

I also used a quality rubber sheet. It works great for me.

I also have a Bridgeport Series II Interact 2. It is an awesome machine. You will be happy once you fix it. I had to throw out the control and retrofit.

The prices that we suggested, are not unreasonable, keep looking and you will find.

I would say that if you find one that is in a provably working condition with little visible wear, 2-3k would be a fair price to pay.

Note that you can also use Mach3, but you need to get different servo drives that take ste pand direction input. At least this is my understanding.

You can do a conversion using other interfaces, such as Mesa cards. You can join EMC-Users mailing list and ask some questions.

You have a good summary. You will probably be able to reuse the drives and encoders, though I cannot be sure. I think that hurco motors are Electro-Craft.

Servo motors are superior to stepper motors. I recommend not swapping them.

I have a Bridgeport Interact 2 running under EMC2. Adding a 4th axis was rather simple, though trivialities like what wire terminals to use, resolver to encoder converter, etc made it take a while.

A less charitable explanation is that the seller knows that it does not work, just is not telling.

Those BSers, usually, want high prices for the machinery that they are selling.

That's awesome. I have a 4th axis on my Bridgeport, consisting of a VERY old Troyke CNC rotary table with a servo motor and a resolver. It seems to work pretty well.
