  1. Re: JET GHB-1340A CNC Conversion (CAD Model link)

thanks for the suggestions, I have fit the 10mm ball screw in the saddle fine. I'm not really crazy about having the screw behind the saddle. I'm not disconnecting the ballscrew, and I have glass...
  2. Re: 'Best' controller/software for 2 axis lathe conversion

K flop is interesting, I remember seeing folks very happy with it. Im going to have to look into the conversational programming, this is not really something have thought about much. thanks for the...
  3. 'Best' controller/software for 2 axis lathe conversion

I was planning on using Lunix cnc and have bought a 5i25 and 7i77d combo as well as 400w dyne 2 DMM servoes to be used with lunix CNC for a jet 13x40 conversion. Now that I am digging into it, I see...

done, no calc though... as its a PDF, so a brief explanation. Column headers (green) are pulley diameter for that column, Row headers (green) are pulley RPM for that row, numbers in matrix (white)...

Re: Poly v Belt power transmission

Thanks! I've been digging for some time on this and found an Italian vendor of v belts that published load ratings. Made a spreadsheet for this.
  6. Re: JET GHB-1340A CNC Conversion (CAD Model link)

x will be a 10mm ball screw, it is hard to find one that fits! If it is not stiff enough I will have to go back to ACME but would rather not. z is 25mm ballscrew.

    Re: lathe grinding ways

Not even with carbide scraper on a biax power scraper? I see they list hardened ways under the heavy duty model but not the others.

I have purchased about 6 of these closed loop steppers (the ones from automation technologies inc, which are rebranded leadshines. I have had a lot of trouble with them. I've gotten over current...
  10. Re: JET GHB-1340A CNC Conversion (CAD Model link)

For anyone who might be following this build, the design has gotten pretty far, and I expect to build starting this year. I just finished putting a VFD and baldor motor on it. It now has quite a...

    Poly v Belt power transmission

I am putting a 5hp baldor ZDM3665T motor on to my BOSS cnc mill retrofit. The main idea here is to get the electronic speed range for the 2hp rating of the spindle. I may start using more power IF...

    Re: Manumatic lathe.

The DMM drives actually have an input for enabling the drive. If it is not enabled, the drive is still on and the servo can move with no resistance. I think the encoder data would still go to the...

    Manumatic lathe.

I am converting my 13x40 lathe to cnc. I would like to be able to do some basic manual turning still, and have designed for removeable handles to move the axis. I pretty sure I will use Mesa 5i25...

    Runaway Easy servo

I have the Automation Tech version of the Easy Servo. I assume this is a rebranded leadshine drive. Overall the performance is great compared to the steppers they replaced. They do however have...
  16. Re: Is it possible to disable 'Position following error protection' on a ES-D1008 dri

Not sure if you are still working on this but for others who search and bring this up, I have set the position lead error very high on my drives with my cnc so that they must miss 20 rotations to...

    Re: Dbsharp's Aluminum CNC

I have occasional issues with this machine on rapids where the motors just dont want to keep up. Being closed loop steppers, they get there but you can tell they lose position. I have done some...
  18. Re: Making BT30 end mill tool holders at home. How bad is this idea?

Call me crazy, but I was going to attempt a shrink fit solid " bushing" to fit in my PC router in place of a collet. I figured I can machine it all in one setup on the lathe and ream the Id to...
  19. Re: JET GHB-1340A CNC Conversion (CAD Model link)

This build is finally making headway. Parts are rolling in! I have decided to make this a manumatic style cnc where i can operate manually with handwheels if needed. all motors will be contained in...

  24. New to tng and mk3 board. Think i may have found a tool measure and work offset bug?

I think I may have found a bug. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong?

I have found that if I use a tool a lot longer than the tool I used to set the fixed position tool sensor, the work offset and...
  25. Re: Slant bed lathe, tool changer, pneumatic 5c drawbar, DYNOMOTION control, PICS!

I am very interested in the pneumatic collet closer. I have thought about trying to design one for my jet lathe after I get some other projects complete. I'd love to see someone make a diy version...
