Dolphin CAM a good choice for woodworking or guitar builders?
Here's a double cut t-style done in MoI3D - the renderings were done in Fusion 360. Some models made with MoI over the last few months. . . The Blue rendering is a customer order - the red rendering...

Hello Mr. Werby,
Yes - used Fusion 360 for a year and was frustrated in some respects - purchased MoI and after a few months of learning find it more intuitive with a faster and more productive...
Update: Andy at CamBam has followed through on offering to help - although he says doing guitar necks and bodies in CamBam is involved so will share the outcome here when possible.
Please make the video - would like to see how you do it. Thanks, N
Kosh - how's it going? What are you up to with aluminum these days?

The milling of this neck went a bit better than the last post . . . the transition on the heel needs to be more gradual and using arcs instead of circles for the neck...
Hello Kosh - appreciate the input - I will try that! The settings I used were waterline roughing and finishing.
Finally milled a neck - still have more work to do but it's a start. :)

How about a picture?
Cool hold down setup!
I'm a beginner at CAD. Been trying many ways to do neck transitions. So far like this method best because it is easy. There are many ways to do neck transitions but some of those are difficult for...
Sure! I'd love to see what you figured out. My latest in MoI is attached . . . just the neck no fretboard . . . :) Hope I can turn my machine on soon . . .lol...
MoI, 3D modeling for designers and artists
Here's a more recent version - love MoI3D really fantastic program. Took down the heel on the side the hand is in the upper register - this is just the neck. Don't see any reason to model the...
Estlcam is a terrific cam 3D and 2D cam program that allows you to import .stl files - it also comes with a grbl sender. Deskproto is great too but the entry level program has a lot of limitations -...
Sounds good - been using Fusion for over a year now under the start-up license - but was looking for something I can own that wouldn't require working in a cloud, sharing or uploading designs. The...
The owner of Deskprot told said a couple days ago that I can by a hobby license after all - but already bought two other CAM programs . . .lol. So will have to save some money to buy DP. I really...
Ended up buying another CAM program because have not been able to properly mill any of my 3D models in CamBam - it's most likely possible - but not for me yet. Estlcam you just bring your model in,...
Hello,
New to CamBam - Designed this neck in MOI and need to mill it (just the back profile as in the screen capture) it needs to be put on the bed diagonally - the wood is about 27" long X 1.2"...
I almost purchased Deskproto today (entry edition) for 3D but found out that the entry edition will not cut diagonally - only the expert and above editions which start at 725 bucks. My machine will...
Many thanks David - much appreciated. Both of my CNC machines are grbl 1.1 - Unfortunately after putting the file in the CamBam "plugins" folder grbl still does not show up in the drop down menu....
Hello - new user here. Make guitars for a living. Any input or suggestions are appreciated. One thing I noticed right away is the post processor drop down menu does not list generic grbl which is...
As usual - sterling advice - thanks. Decided on and purchased CamBam - it's a surprisingly rich program for the price (was prepared to spend a lot more). The owner has been really helpful and there...
I've found Deskproto standard very good - stunning tool paths. MeshCam by direct contrast is super easy, reliable and fast - had no problems at all setting it up and generating good code - for some...
Thanks Shane-W - that's a terrific web site - very informative.
Is MeshCam still your main CAM program?
I'll test it some more today been using the 3 axis edition - the comparison sheet shows that it doesn't have nearly as many advanced tool paths. Want to mill necks like the one attached....
