  1. Re: How is everyone building a DIY CNC router system that maintains cutting tolerance

You will not be able to build one with that kind of accuracy. Commercial routers in the 6 figure range do not achieve that accuracy. May get repeatability in the .005 range if you know what you are...

Re: CNC not responding to mach3 Demo

USB-> parallel adapters do not work for CNC. There are USB -> Parallel Motion Controllers like the UC100 that do work. Are you using a Genuine UC100?
  4. Re: Newby, buiding machine.... Help choosing spindle, use VFD or not?

A 65 foot by 32 foot machine may be a bit too ambitious for a first timer...
Assuming you mean millimeters, you probably will need much bigger than 8mm acme screws. You may want to spend a little...
  5. Re: Spindle ER11 water cooled VS. ER16 air cooled

    Both er11 and er16 are families of collet sizes. Er11 it’s 1mm - 7mm shanked bit, ER16 is 1-10mm, and er20 handles 1-13mm.

Approximately the same range available in SAE sizes (1/16 - 1/4, 3/8, or...
  6. Re: 4 axis wood router from old lathe?

Gary Campbell has built a very nice example of what you are thinking of

  7. Re: What is the best way to verify accuracy of machine

That will represent the no load best case, but not the loads due to cutting, bit deflection, etc. If the structure is not stiff enough may even get gyroscopic loads fron spindle running.
  8. Re: What is the best way to verify accuracy of machine

If you calculated mechanically it should take 2000 steps/inch then changed it to 2022/2030, parts should have come oversized. (Would have commanded more steps than necessary to move any set distance)...
  9. Re: What is the best way to verify accuracy of machine

You probably should have different steps/inch on Z than for X and Y. This is a number that is calculated based on the hardware, not something you “adjust”. If you need to adjust this, you have...
  10. Re: Router Replacement Spoilboard - Metal Extrusion

I have not bought from them, will be interested in what quotes are provided. On my own machine I decided to embed a grid of t-track and have been happy with how it’s working out.

    I would think the...

  12. Re: Z height and thoughts on spacer boxes etc

On my machine I designed the gantry to be adjustable in height. The Z travel remains the same, but the entire gantry can move. The gantry attaches via a piece of angle to an 8020 extrusion vertical...
  13. Re: Lucidgroove's Solsylva based 24x48 CNC Router

The control computer does not need to be very powerful. Use the i7 for your CAD/CAM computer, the control computer should be dedicated to only running your control software, and does not need i7...

Re: Circles not coming out the right size

Since Fusion 360 is capable of doing the CAM (creating the g-code), why are you exporting to DXF and importing into Aspire? The g-code you posted does not have any g2 (arc) commands - the code is...

On my machine the touch probe input pin is normally high, pulled low by the bit grounding the plate attached to the input pin. Is that how yours operates?

  17. Re: any suggestion about my DIY CNC router video

Certainly not the “fastest diy cnc” I’ve seen by a long shot. A regular router bolted to a sheet metal support does not inspire confidence in the sufficiency of the rest of your design. Unless...
  18. Re: Please help with machine chatter & movement

In that second photo is there another bearing outboard of the large belt sprocket? The one bearing visible is certainly not sufficient. The belt should also be the full width, as large as possible....

Re: Grounding for touch probe, G540

Since I never got any feedback to my original post, I did end up tying -V on the 48V supply to ny star ground point. Works great. Note that all of my electronics are gantry mounted. See my build...
  21. Re: G540 and Chinese VFD setup help please?

You are correct, I never realized the G540 "output" pins are simply a switched connection to ground. Could of saved the $5.99 the relay board cost me!
  22. Re: G540 and Chinese VFD setup help please?

You WILL need a relay, or could wire a simple switch. Continuity between the VFD FWD and GND acts as an enable signal to enable operation of the spindle. No power or current flows (only logic level...
  23. Re: 30"+ work space low cost diy CNC router parts kits?

Are you moving gantry or table? How much will it weigh? What kinds of speed do you need to machine the materials you want to cut? Rotating shaft or rotating nut for the ballscrew? Direct drive or...
  24. Re: 30"+ work space low cost diy CNC router parts kits?

I bought similarly sized CNC router parts version, 420 oz-in, they have a little lower inductance (3.0 vs. 3.8mH), came already prewired with the same DB9 connector that the Gecko 540 uses (you will...
  25. Re: Starter Wood Relief Art - Buy or Build a CNC?

I'm pretty budget constrained- I caught the $99 special. I belong to a group of cnc users here in Colorado and almost all of them use Aspire or Vcarve Pro. So far I have been able to replicate...
  26. Re: Starter Wood Relief Art - Buy or Build a CNC?

  30. Re: Router Spindle on Robot Arm - Software solution.

I am coming into this discussion late, but I want to ask a question. Is your goal to build a CNC robotic arm router, or is it to carve designs that cannot be made with a conventional 3 or 4 axis...
