Re: Simple, but frustrating Toolpath Issue!?

Did you generate the operations? If it was a simulation issue, it should've prompted an error. If you generated your toolpaths and they are staying pink. Then it's an issue with your toolpath...

What material are you cutting? Brass tends to turn my coolant a light shade of blue for whatever reason.

    Hanermo,

That is indeed a straight flute drill, NOT a reamer.

    Re: Small hole reaming 4130

.015" undersize is a bit much for that small of a reamer. I would leave about .006"-.008" total. You are correct on doing half and half for drilling. 40xD is not fun
  9. Re: How to "Drill" a 1/2-20 thread hole 1" deep on a Tormach in Ti-6Al4V

a 1/2-20 tap drill is a 29/64" NOT a 15/32". your minor diameter will be out of spec.

Just drill it with a 135deg stub drill. and interpolate the .100" of drill point out.

  11. Re: When doing a pocket cut, is there any way to reduce the feed the first loop?

Or if you want to adjust it in the CAM software. Make the first loop a lead in move and adjust your lead in feed rate to what you want.

    Re: Need productivity tips

Ordering stock 1/8" oversize is the best way to go. Why square up stock before putting it in the CNC? Depending on the thickness of the part I give myself either at least .125" or .25" of stock. The...
  13. Re: Abrasive Wheel OK for cutting .5 OD X .058 walled 6061 tube?

Aluminum will load the wheel. Do you have a chop saw or rip saw? These will work, just make sure the part is supported well. 96 Tpi is a lot for cutting aluminum. I would use around a 12TPI for that...

Re: Reamer alignment in pre-drilled hole

Put it on the drill press use a reamer that is approx .003"-.01" smaller than finish size. Don't fasten the part to the table, let it "float". The reamer will align the part. Then finish with the...

    Re: Metal cutting service

If you're machining them, why are they being precut? Have the metal supplier blank the parts out if you don't have a saw, and machine it to size.

    Re: Aluminium Block Corner Radius

I would think a 1/4" radius should be good enough. You may even be able to do a 5/16" radius and not have to counterbore into the radius. I would avoid counterboring into a feature that you are...
  18. Re: CNC Setup for drilling a hole on an angled surface? Best practices?

If you're only making 2 or 3, a 3 axis vmc will work fine.
  19. Re: Climb or conventional milling, which for which?

Conventional is good for getting underneath the scale of materials and flame cut parts. But 99% of the time on a cnc machine you will be climb milling.

Re: Drilling 2mm hole in 304 Stainless

The feed sounds right. The is speed a little bit conservative but is a good starting point. Those numbers look pretty good to start with. Give it a go.

Re: Why do I get a rats nest

Your feed is too low also. Kick up the feed to about 5ipm or .003/rev. I have had good luck dividing the drill diameter by 62 to get my feed.

Re: Counterboring of holes for screw heads

Use a 1/4" carbide end mill and interpolate your counterbores with a 10% doc (.025" depth). Run it 18000 to 23000 rpm with a feed of .002" IPT ex. 4 flute end mill 18000*.002*4=144ipm. If your cnc...
