  1. Re: Cheapest wheel driven linear rails (skate bearings inside rubber hose)

I cut an Ikea bed frame for the base thats 40inches all around... a ladder for the table in which I happen to have metal tubes that fit across and snug into the protruding sections, a cheap $70 Z...
  2. Re: Cheapest wheel driven linear rails (skate bearings inside rubber hose)

For my table axis, I need a minimum of 36 inches but I cant even find 13/16 (20.6mm) tubing locally. Ordering such a large diameter in bearings already has priced me out of anything affordable.

  3. Re: Cheapest wheel driven linear rails (skate bearings inside rubber hose)

Thanks guys I had no idea.
I just bought 4 20mm adjustable round bearing blocks for under $50 Canadian through Amazon.
I already have 2 long 3/4inch (19mm) round steel tubing that Im hoping the...
  4. Cheapest wheel driven linear rails (skate bearings inside rubber hose)

The use of skate bearings and inserting them inside cut out rubber hose sections has to be the best poor mans solutions to make linear rails.

As seen in the picture, I initially used a plastic...

Re: A poor mans CNC machine

Re: A poor mans CNC machine

For sure materials are expensive, even bolts and brackets. Ive used an Ikea bed for the X base, the metal supports are sourced from a bed board, and a ladder for the table.

Re: A poor mans CNC machine

Thanks, Ive been keeping various parts through out the years for this new design (as I ditched the old) and if it has major problems I just might have to order parts to get it finished.

    Thanks!

I see that a grounded wire can attract large wood chip dust... not sure how effective it will be if I setup some kind of cheap looped ionizer wire to hover over the table.
