    Re: CNC Machine with ATC

I'm in NY, too far away, I'm not comfortable buying a machine without an in person inspection. Looks like a great machine, Gary has an excellent reputation!

    Re: CNC Machine with ATC

    Where is the machine located?
  3. Re: HOW can I modernize a Techno CNC DaVinci Series 1012?

Reading the above reminded me that I also have a new, never used UC100 that I'd be willing to sell at a good price. Yet another item I bought that never got used!
  4. Re: HOW can I modernize a Techno CNC DaVinci Series 1012?

Craig gives very good advice in this thread!

I am using Mach 3 with a parallel port, but I bought an ESS to enable me to use a laptop to save room. Just didn't get around to it yet. And I used...
  5. Re: HOW can I modernize a Techno CNC DaVinci Series 1012?

If you've read the posts about upgrading the Davinci, you may have seen mine. I started by trying to use the original Techno software, got the machine to move, but it wasn't very satisfying. So I...
  6. Re: Another DIY CNC Machine Project… - Looking for some advice

Oh, sorry, I misread your emoticon, looked like you were sticking your tongue out. Humor doesn't always come thru well on the internet.

I don't doubt FEA is invaluable for a serious designer of...
  7. Re: Another DIY CNC Machine Project… - Looking for some advice

    Wrong... and rude.

You have no idea what my background is. Wonderful machines have been designed and built for thousands of years without the benefit of FEA, computers, or even electricity. ...
  8. Re: Another DIY CNC Machine Project… - Looking for some advice

FEA is way above my pay grade!

If I were to build a machine, I think I'd make the uprights thicker and wider, space the bottom axis trucks further apart, and live with a slightly longer...
  9. Re: Another DIY CNC Machine Project… - Looking for some advice

My concern is with what I think you are calling "overhang". It seems to me that on many of these machines the spindle center is pretty far in front of the footprint of the bearing blocks on the...
  10. Re: Another DIY CNC Machine Project… - Looking for some advice

I'm a complete newbie to router design, been following this design and have learned a lot, thank you all. Have a small Techno router, thinking to go larger DIY

I'm wondering if having the spindle...

    Re: Z axis inconsistency

That's really interesting, a good argument for always using a dedicated power supply for the ESS. I'm just setting one up now, and debated that issue, decided a dedicated PS was so inexpensive...

    Backlash with Lovejoy coupling?

I removed the stepper on an older Isel slide unit, and discovered there was a bit of backlash in the Lovejoy coupling. Is this is to be expected, or could the spider have shrunk or gotten...

Re: Modding Davinci with longer table travel

    Thanks for the reply Eric.

It is the y axis I want to extend to get approx 24" travel. How would you recommend I go about this? I was concerned about having the stepper motor hanging way out...

Re: SSR or mechanical relay to turn on spindle?

My router 800 watts, 7 amps, thought I'd be ok with 25 amp rating.

Re: SSR or mechanical relay to turn on spindle?

    Thanks Al.

I emailed about the IoT Relay to get clarification, but I'm going to get it either way, seems so simple to use

Modding Davinci with longer table travel

I have a Davinci, with 12" x 10" work envelope, would really like to have 24" x 10", so I can work on banjo necks and fingerboards without having to tile (which had worked just fine up to date)

SSR or mechanical relay to turn on spindle?

Wondering if it is preferable to use an SSR or mechanical relay to turn on/off my 110v Kress spindle with the controller? Have heard mechanical relays can cause EMI noise.

Re: Cast Bench Top CNC Build

Why SG iron instead of gray iron? Gray iron is less expensive and has better damping qualities. Is the ductility of SG an advantage here?
  24. Re: Enclosure for Gecko 540 and SmoothStepper - both in same box?

    Thanks, thought as much.

What about the relay, cn that be in there also?
  25. Enclosure for Gecko 540 and SmoothStepper - both in same box?

Electronics newbie - I'm upgrading an old Techno Davinci router with a Gecko G540 drive and an ESS Smoothstepper. Wondering if there's any reason not to put them both in the same enclosure? I'm...
  26. Correction- ABS is 1.25" x 24" x 68"

  27. ABS 1.25" x 28" x 68" for vac chuck/spopil board $150

I have a big piece of black ABS 1.25"t x 28"w x 68"l. Seems like it would make a great vac chuck or spoil board for a 2' x 3' or 4' router.

Never used, just some patina from storing and moving...

Re: New spindle location to reduce flex

Why do you even need the tramming plate? If the spindle mounts had flanges either side, they could be mounted directly to the z stage plate. Tramming could be done by having slightly oversize bolt...

I'm using 36v for the Gecko, could use that for the relays.

    Re: Using relay w/ G540 - 5v or 36v coil

    Thanks for the reply.

I actually have both 5v and 36v on the oem power supply of my Techno Davinci router, was just wondering if there was a reason to use one over the other,
