I think I'm having problems with moisture in the air system that feeds my plasma table. Typically I have a nice smooth edge. However, tonight I was running a long program and started seeing my edge...
It looks like your table is coming along nicely.
Bill,
All I can say is WOW!!!! That's a sweet looking machine you've got going there. I'm looking forward to watching your progress.
Kit is indeed my Dad. Get him behind the Burr-King and everything is as smooth as silk. He showed me a damascus bowie he's been working on, this afternoon, and it's absolutely beautiful. His skill...
Thanks plain ol Bill. I'm sure your 50 years of welding experience makes my welds look like cow manure. I had to spot a few of my welds twice to make my table hold water. Several thick coats of...
plain ol bill,
I cut my slat holders out of 10 ga (.134") thick material. Good luck on your table.
jcar,
aicomp,
Out of curiousity, I took a look at my empty Plasma Quench container this afternoon. According to the Hazmat info on the container, it contains "nitrite" salts. Who knows what's going...
Bigtoy302,
Congratulations. You've built a very nice machine. What kind of rapids are you getting? It looks like it flies!!!
aicomp,
You may want to check your sources. According to the MSDS sheets, Plasma Quench is made with sodium nitrate, not sodium nitrite. Can one be substituted for the other? I don't know. ...
This is all very unfortunate. I really like Plasma Quench. Oh well, I guess I need to start looking for a supplier of sodium nitrate. I hope you guys manage to get everything worked out.
Please post some links. Im sure everyone would like to know where they can get a good deal on rails. As for the price difference, I suspect your not looking at quality Japanese THK or NSK rails in...
I'll throw in my 2 cents for Plasma Quench. I've been using it for almost a year now, and don't have any problems with rust or odor. Great product. According to the MSDS sheet...
Thanks. I spent around $7500 for everything, which includes $3000 for the Powermax 1000 and machine torch.
I use plasma quench as well. I think it cost me around $35 for 5 gallons. It treats around 150-200 gallons. According to the MSDS sheets, it's primary component is sodium nitrite.
I'll second hypermax. Good prices and fast shipping.
Normsthhname,
Thanks :)
You are 100 percent correct. I have "holders" welded to the top side of the air tank that have slots in them to accept my slats. The water level does drop below...
Steve,
The gearboxes look nice. If I could get a good deal on 4 of them, I'd jump on it. Based on experience with my machine, I don't think you'll have a problem with power or acceleration. ...
Steve,
I checked the specs, and man, those are some big gearboxes. The only concern I would have is the output shaft diameter. From what I could tell, it's 24mm (.945"). All of the pinions that...
Bigtoy302,
Yes, I have cut a number of items from the Signtorch disk. As far as I'm concerned, you won't find a better deal anywhere. The images are well done and the there's a lot too choose...
Drafterman,
Thanks. I was concerned about the longevity of the nylon pulleys. I was afraid that the constant torque/direction changes would loosen the interface between the nylon pulley and it's...
Cool idea.
To the right of the DRO's, on the main Mach screen, you'll find little boxes with "1.000" in them. You can click on these and enter a new scale factor for that axis. For example, if you want to cut...
mazade,
I wouldn't sweat the 10 ga wiring. Thermal Dynamics knows their machine better than any of us and if they're comfortable recommending 10 ga, I'd move on to bigger and better things. ...
Initially, I was with Bigtoy302 in thinking that 10 ga seemed a little small for a machine that draws 47 amps at 230 volts. My Hypertherm Powermax 1000 draws 44 amps at 230 volts and Hypertherm...
Smart thinking. I've got something similar in the works, although I fabricated my tub from scratch. I take it you're mounting the angle flanges on springs and putting counter weights on the drive...
carbidecraters,
Thanks, I've been very pleased with the accuracy of the machine. It's better than I expected.
I've been thinking about posting detailed plans of my machine, it's just a...
Thanks. My shop is indeed poured concrete with lotsa' rebar. Not only should it last forever, but it's fire proof as well..... :)
Bigtoy302,
Either will work. I used 16 pitch, 14 1/2 degree pressure angle racks. Initially I felt that 20 pitch was a little too small. After having used the 16 pitch, I think the 20 pitch...
Dizzy G,
Drilling them in pairs would be the way to go if you're doing it on a drill press. If the mainenance department has a reamer sized for the bearing O.D., have them drill it slightly...
