  1. Re: CNC Router Parts / Avid CNC Benchtop PRO 2424 Machine Kit + Sensors - $1800

I see not much has changed on the zone since I last bothered to log on!

Awesome looking machine, nice design and decent price too, I reckon the buyer will be very happy.

    Re: 1.5kW motor on a 3040?

With that 2.2kw spindle machine, take note he's changed all the electronics, and the steppers have been replaced with much more powerful ones!

    There's no way the electronics/mechanics on a...

    Re: 1.5kW motor on a 3040?

I wouldn't worry too much, you've still got a cheap entry level ticket into the cnc world.

Either it will do what you want reasonably well within it's limits, or it will just be the first of many...

    Re: Chinese 3040T CNC upgrades.

I'm a bit dubious whether a 3040 is worth tarting up at all unless you can get the parts for practically nothing?

It seems a lot of cost and effort for very little return, as the 3040's inherently...

    Re: 1.5kW motor on a 3040?

I've got a 3040 and a 6040, the 6040 is terrific value and quite a robust and well made machine generally, the only real downside is the garbage "blue box" controller they come standard with. Replace...

Poll: Re: what do you think of chinese cnc machine?

I'm finding the Chinese increasingly better to deal with over time. And the fact they don't embrace the "charge as much as possible" attitude that is pretty typical among local sellers is just great,...

Re: cnc parts,DIY and repair costs

I'm assuming the market for parts and consumables in the States is somewhat similar to what is here in OZ, in other words very little stuff actually MADE in the States, with resellers/distributors...

It's great to hear getting into CNC has made a major change for the better for you!

I absolutely love anytime I go out to complete a job or just potter around on the latest design or project. The...

    Re: Production sanding

I do a heap of this kind of work all the time and as others have pointed out, a cheapo laminate trimmer in a simple made table with the hole as small as possible, really is the far easiest and...

Re: A Fixed Gantry Cast Iron/Steel Build

Hi Dejan, what an awesome job you've done on the machine so far, the castings in particular are absolutely brilliant! I'm looking forward to see how it progresses.

Re: A Fixed Gantry Cast Iron/Steel Build

I'm far from any expert but based on my experiences with mills and cnc machines, machining ferrous materials is very different to the run of the mill materials machined on most hobbiest machines.

  16. Re: Mechanical quality / accuracy of Chinese routers?

  17. Re: Mechanical quality / accuracy of Chinese routers?

As an owner of several Chinese machines, I can say they all have exceeded my expectations on build quality.

My 6090, not the table version, is a huge brute that just keeps on plugging away...

Re: Need Help with my new CNC 3040 MAchine.

It might be a little more expensive up front, but once you use a G540 you will never regret buying it!

They are that good! And with bullet proof support to boot.

Re: Choosing the stepper motor torque...

This is a much closer match:

    Nema 23 Stepper Motor, 3.5A 300oz in. 2.4mh Inductance (1/4in Double Shaft)

Although around 2.3mH is going to be about the best achievable. As I stated before,...

Re: Choosing the stepper motor torque...

You can get more optimal, bringing you closer to the max possible match, but those steppers are really good and will be more than capable of pushing a few hundred kilo's around!

Re: Need Help with my new CNC 3040 MAchine.

If the spindle powers on fine but the axis doesn't move, then it sounds like the driver IC itself has died. This will be the larger chip, usually with a heatsink attached. I'm guessing the driver...

Re: Choosing the stepper motor torque...

The torque/ratings do matter, but you can actually size a stepper too large for the purpose. A PSU that is matched to a good stepper can be far more efficient than a larger stepper incorrectly...

Re: Choosing the stepper motor torque...

I wouldn't consider either of those two to be very great kits, one has steppers with 9mH inductance and is supplied with a 36VDC PSU, the other has 12mH inductance if you wire is series, and 3mH in...

Re: Need Help with my new CNC 3040 MAchine.

Sounds like the driver board has blown. Is it a TB6560 based one, if so there's a better than fair chance the main IC's have blown.

It may be visually obvious, you could swap axis to test which...
