Re: Yet another epoxy granite mill

Thanks, I was not aware of that alternative. For sure attractibe to moving parts which are sensitive to weight. But for fixed parts (like the frame and table), a quick Google search and ChatGPT query...

Re: Yet another epoxy granite mill

Hello Badhabit. You have built a very nice machine, I have read pretty much the whole story.

I see you have done a substantial amount of research on epoxy granite, so you might be able to easily...

  5. Re: Lapping aluminium extrusions using a straight edge

Thanks for the replies. The preload is ZA and precision is C grade. I bought them from BST Automotion store on Aliexpress.

I really think it is the carriages, because on my Z-axis the rails are...
  6. Lapping aluminium extrusions using a straight edge

Hi. I have a home made cnc machine built out of heavy duty 80x160 aluminium extrusions. I had them milled flat by a local shop, but for some reason they werent as flat as I wanted them to be. I...
  7. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

45min pot life is too short, you will kot be able to mix it properly and then cast. Aim for at least 3h pot life.

Then you can skip the intermediate plate. :)

  9. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

It makes aligment easier when you can first align the rails. Then you can bolt your table onto the intermediate plate and shim that / surface it so that it is aligned with the rest of the machine....
  10. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

I have the possibility to make them myaelf since I have a lathe.

I am not building yet, I am still designing it. In general it will be a 6040 fixed gantry moving table machine.

Thanks, I sent them an email. Ill share the recipe with you if they send it to me.

I have watched the webinars several times, but I have to admit the automatic youtube translation is a little bit...
  12. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

Shrinkage is not 1% for uhpc, rather 1‰ and half of that with retarder.

  13. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

I dont know, I have only read about Nanodur 5941 and the recipe for E>80GPa. Dyckerhoff recommends usage of retarder to minimise shrinkage and prevent microcracking. I read somewhere that shrinkage...
  14. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

Have you considered UHPC from Durcrete, specifically Nanodur E80 recipe? It has a modulus of more than 80GPa (more than aluminium) and is very easy to mix and cast, because it requires no vibration....
  15. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

Sorry I was not clear enough. They dont have it in stock in Finland, but they can buy it from Diamant-polymer. The shipping will anyway cost that because it is dangerous goods. I stumbled on the same...
  16. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

I contacted BEIJER OY and it was them who gave me the quotation. But I will try and epoxy mixed with steel powder and see what results I can get..

  17. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

Unpleasant surprise. Shipping DWH outside out Germany is very expensive. I asked for a quotation to ship to Finland and it wad 340€ just for the shipping, because it is "dangerous goods".. Then I...
  18. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

To achieve that they use a ground rod on one side of the component, which they rest the straight edge on. Then they put a spirit level on top of the straight edge, and adjust intil level with a...
  19. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

Whoch DWH from diamant is recommended? Myself I am planning to use R&G epoxy mixed with metal powder, I saw Scratchbuilt Designs use that approach on Instagram. I have seen on youtube also that metal...
  20. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

I have a 16mm ballscrew on my Z-axis and it works fine. I have a BT30 JGL-100 spindle on it so its about 20-25kg in total (moving part). So far, no issues at all with 5000mm/min rapids (I dont recall...
  21. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

While it is good to calculate and simulate things; I think you are overthinking it. A 20mm ballscrew will be perfect for your build (given the work area) dont stress anymore about the size. What you...
  22. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

Those FS3MG machines are really impressive for their price. They seem very rigid especially with the stiffer Z-axis for belt drive spindles. Also very precise machine, small footprint and large work...
  23. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

300mm Z sounds okat but consider if you are going to use a Haimer probe. Then the additional 100mm will be a good thing. X and Y 600x400 is good, but you will need quite a huge column with Z-axis...

    Re: ATC Spindle sources

Jianken JGL spindles are great. They also have the JGY spindles which has encoder (rigid tapping) and better torque at lower rpm compared to JGL.

    Hi,

I would personally recommend the JMC iHSV60 servos, those are very affordable. I have good experience with those. You can find these from Sorotec and Cnc-technics for example. The 2nd...

Sounds like a good plan! Anyway the excel should help anyone who is not sure about what size of servo motor they need. Rule of thumb would be to use a safety factor of at least 2, which eliminates...

Re: Delta servo drives and servos.

That makes sense, my bad. I compared the calculations to the Yaskawa software and the results are spot on, if you use ballscrew efficiency of 1 (0,85-0,95 in reality).

    Anyway, I quickly made and...
