Here is a schematic that Marris posted on the Yahoo Gecko Group geckodrive : Geckodrive back in 2008. Probably out of date but I suspect the I/O is still similar. Anyway, hope this is of some help to...

I cannot help you as I never used the original controller because it wasn't working when I bought the 810.

Have the inputs configurable so they can be either a ground (as they are now) or a positive DC voltage. Let user select input type for each input with a shunt or dip switch.

Why not leave the G540 as-is for now and get the GM540 finished and in production? :D

With machine connected to PC, MACH3 running, and motors at idle there is no noise at all from the motors.
Voltage measurements are taken with machine in the same state.

As Pplug said, they are probably the old round case Oriental Motor Vexta series PH268 NEMA23 size motors with a double ended shaft.
