Marty,
Watched your video on this conversion, have a question for you:
You mention the original mill had glass scales. Will the Allin1DC use those for positioning? I'm leaning towards using...
That mill head looks remarkably similar to my Hurco Hawk 5M...like identical with the vari-speed drive.
I stumbled here looking to retrofit an Allin1DC controller to it to replace the Ultimax 3.

I'm fairly certain I have isolated it to a bad LH1510 MOSFET relay on the IO board. The one for forward spindle control (U6) gives normal readings with a diode check and the reverse IC (U7) does...
- Checked the reverse contactor and manual operation (pushing in the tab) starts motor in reverse.
- Checked continuity of forward contact 'b' coil (NC) and good.
- checked reverse contactor coil...
I should have read this post closer 5 extra times.
The proximity sensor had no pulse signal with spindle rotation. I removed it and tested it ok, then reinstalled it until it made contact with...
Threw the picoscope on the spindle proximity sensor. 24V supplied to sensor and a non-changing 24V output from it whether the spindle is rotating or not.
I'm going to pull the sensor tomorrow and...
So, finally getting a chance to work on this.
The speed change motor was removed when I got the unit and a bolt put in the couple to allow manually changing speed.
- Upon removing the worm gear...
That was the ticket. Under .0002" deflection now very little change by clamp on ammeter.
Hats off to you sir.
Now to recreate my leadscrew comp I nuked with an erroneous soft key...
Made some adjustment to the X gibs and no change. Is it possible the weight of the table hang is providing enough torsion to lift the Y? I can stand next the end a lift the table to get it back to...
Ahh...I struggled with that the first 5 times I read it since the indicator shows movement closer to the table. Then it occurred to me that the weigh of the table hanging off the other end might...
Greetings all.
1996 Hurco Hawk 5M with Ultimax 3 Control. Machine was purchased recently and while leveling the table and setting things up, I noticed some possible twist to the table. In effort...
Picked it up for $4,000 and can't complain. Got it into my shop and in final position Thursday, setting up the phase converter and reassembling a few things this week.
I'm in Eliot, ME about an hour north of Boston. I'm looking for service manuals and wiring diagrams, but haven't found much. Anything is appreciated.
Good info, will give me a better idea of...
Went and looked at the machine today. For the exceptionally short money, I put a deposit on it and just have to figure out how to get it back to my shop.
So, there's a work driven shaft that...
Greetings all.
Relative newb to machining here. I work on primarily aluminum block engines ands cylinder heads. Looking into a CNC Mill for block and head decking, tapping for thread inserts,...
No worries, Looking at the first pic, it does resemble an old RC-10 tranny...
Ideally, I would rather find a better alternative material as this one is clearly underdesigned. It would probably be...
If only it were that easy. My background as a kid was RC, but this is one of two throttle actuators manufactured by Siemens-VDO used to control 5 throttle bodies on a 507HP BMW S85 V-10 engine. These...
Greetings,
I am looking to have some replacement gears made for an automotive component. The damage was identified just yesterday, so I have not yet drawn them up in CAD. I can provide these as...
Stopped by and looked at it today, sure enough, it's a J425. It's tucked back in a pretty tight area in an auto repair shop and the owner of the machine wasn't there, so I couldn't get inside of it...
I have a little more info now, but will go by and look at it this afternoon to verify the model #.
The machine was retrofit at Delta Tau with a PMAC controller, Quad Amp, and Yasakawa servos.
I...
Looking for anything I can find on this machine.
I'm looking at one locally which apparently had a control conversion done some time ago and is now inperable. Not much for details yet, but hope...
Well...the problem is...if there are any Colchester or Mastercam dealers here....they don't speak English. We are based in La Maddalena, Italy. My Italian passes for ordering dinner and that's about...
Greetings all,
It's been a while since I visited here, but I was always amazed at the knowledge passed around here...
I'm Navy and was just transferred to supervise our Machine Shop this week....
I almost convinced the local dump to take it on their Household Hazardous Waste Amnesty Program, no questions asked sort of thing....except they *do* ask a few questions. Like what is it? After I...
Wanna know the real deal?
Here's how I learned the hard way. I made a few new machinist friends a month or so ago. One of them introduced me to the widow of an old retired Navy Warrant Officer....
I would be hard pressed to believe any of their claims other than that of making the cycle look better. If all the process does is knurl the edges of the fins (which is what it looks like) then...
Well, previous discussion on the subject has piqued my interest in timing belts.
For a fourth (A) axis, would it be feasable to use a timing belt arrangement with a couple of reduction stages to...
you know, I have been thinking about this for a couple of days now. I never even thought about the torque that a belt drive would have to be able to handle until you mentioned the Harley.
It seems...
I think the MOTENC is going to be the way I end up going. I will not have enough encoder inputs with that card alone. Someone from CCED recommended using a pair of MOTENCS (gasp!) for all the control...
The only problem I can see using belt drive is if the machine is designed to cut harder materials, then you need to be able to put more force on the axes to keep the cutter doing its job. I thought a...
