Re: Controlling Z axis clearance tool paths

Actually, looking at the first image I posted above, I can see the total Z travel of the tool paths is ~6.5". So if there is no way to control Z travel in MadCAM, I can physically adjust the height...

Re: Controlling Z axis clearance tool paths

Thanks Dan. That is what I had thought as well.

Gregory, I don't think it is a setting in the machine. The machine has soft limits to protect the hard limits. My Z axis only has 7" of travel,...
  3. Re: Any news on madCam support for G93 Inverse timing in 4 axis cutting?

Svenakela, thanks for this tip. My EdingCNC controller does support G64, so I'm going to give this a try.

Re: 4th axis setup with axis rotation limitations

Svenakela, thanks for looking into it!

This is what I thought. I can easily set the A rotary axis limits in the EdingCNC software setup to prevent crashing into the bracket clamps. I was...
  5. Re: Any news on madCam support for G93 Inverse timing in 4 axis cutting?

G93 inverse timing was discussed here and another thread a while back. Does anyone know if it was added to MadCAM 5? Thanks!

Re: 4th axis setup with axis rotation limitations

That would be great! The workflow I've come up with in MadCAM 4 could be improved.

I'm hoping that if the rotation limits can be set in MadCAM, then hopefully only two tool paths will be needed:...

Controlling Z axis clearance tool paths

Is there a way to limit the Z axis travel (retraction for clearance) when the tool is moving to another area to cut?

    More info:

My machine has a limited Z travel of 7 inches. The tool...

Re: 4th axis setup with axis rotation limitations

Gregory, I just use the clipping planes to control the depth of cut. I've been using region curves to control where the cutter goes. The simplified workflow that works in MadCAM 4 is:

    1. Roughing...

Re: 4th axis setup with axis rotation limitations

Dan, the attached file is a post processor developed for the EdingCNC for Fusion360. Originally, I was going to use Fusion360 CAM, but it does't not appear to be capable of generating tool paths...

Re: 4th axis setup with axis rotation limitations

Svenakela, after reinstalling MadCAM 5 at Gregore's suggestion, I can now see the clipping planes and move them with the gumboil. So this problem is resolved. Thank-you for being willing to check...

Re: 4th axis setup with axis rotation limitations

This is good news. I'll revisit drive surfaces today.

Good idea. I uninstalled MadCAM and tried reinstalling MadCAM 32 & 64 bit versions, but neither had any post processors. I searched...

Re: 4th axis setup with axis rotation limitations

After installing an OpenGL video card and updating the drivers, I'm still not able to view the clipping planes. However, it is a non-issue as I used to using the clipping plane dialogue box instead.

Re: 4th axis setup with axis rotation limitations

Svenakela, thank-you for your blog and videos! I've watched all of them and some repeatedly. It was your 4th axis indexed video that helped me come up with a suitable solution.

    Yes, there is an...

Re: 1997 Fadal VMC 15 to Mach 3 retrofit

If you elect to upgrade the control, you may also want to consider the Dynomotion KFlop. It is affordable, has great support, and does not rely on Windows. I have a Fadal that I would like to...

Do you have an estimate of the cost of the Power Automation retrofit? Or is that forbidden on forums? IIRC, the Numatic was at least $15K. I have a 3016 I would like to retrofit one day. ...
