  1. Re: Taig CNC-Controller Replacement-Dynomotion Suggestion

You may not want a counterweight on the Taig. It has very fine pitch screws and its not going to fall or anything.

To be honest, I found the weight of the head useful in eliminating backlash in...
  2. Re: Taig CNC-Controller Replacement-Dynomotion Suggestion

If Tom thinks 1125 rpm is fast id probably going going slower then 1000. Steppers really loose torque fast at high rpm. So its safer to set rapids on the slow side. Most of my problems with my old...
  3. Re: PID Servo Tuning with SnapAmp Chicken and Egg Variables

Cool, i got it right! 32 times higher, that is interesting for sure, I never would have realized this if you didn't mention it. Learn something new every day.
  4. Re: PID Servo Tuning with SnapAmp Chicken and Egg Variables

Been a while since I did any moment of inertia stuff but your looking at 8 times the mass, with double the surface speed for a given rpm, energy goes up with square of velocity so Im guessing 32...
  5. Re: PID Servo Tuning with SnapAmp Chicken and Egg Variables

You may want to look into rebuilding the ballscrews if they were decent quality to start. Lots of companies doing this and its not too hard to even do it yourself assuming screw itself (usually the...
  6. Re: Kflop controlling ultrasonic welder...

    Hi Tom,

Ok sounds good, I will use a Konnect for I/O, never know what we might add so good to have room for expansion.

So whats the best way to make a connection from Kflop to the Gecko? Can I...
  7. Kflop controlling ultrasonic welder...

    Hi Tom,

One of my customers has an automated ultrasonic welder. We built a control for it using a stepper, gecko drive and Turbocnc about 8 or 9 years ago. Turbocnc was obsolete then, and even...

You made the right decision. Those guys might be up and running now, but your machine will be in a whole other class when you get it running.

May take a little more time and money now, but no...

    Re: Hurco BMC20 Dynomotion Retrofit

Thats awesome, nice work! I like how your toolchanger has an up and down movement too. I thought that was odd at first, why not just use Z axis?? But your machine stores the tools up higher, and out...

Stopping oiler when machine is idle

    Hi Tom,

Is there any easy way to detect when the machine is idle for a period of time? Would be nice if I could disable the oiler after say 10 mins of no movement. Thanks.

    Re: Hurco BMC20 Dynomotion Retrofit

Try setting it to Exec/Wait/Sync. I think any time the C-program causes axis motion you are supposed to use the Sync option. That might be causing part of your problem

    Re: Hurco BMC20 Dynomotion Retrofit

If you know of an issue, better to fix it properly so there cant be any problem. If you leave it to an operator to potentially see the problem and stop it, it will certainly cause a problem...

    Re: Hurco BMC20 Dynomotion Retrofit

Be careful moving carousel only. Things could get messed up if theres a tool left in spindle and it doesnt get put away in the right place. Wouldn't want to end up in some kind of situation where its...

    Re: Hurco BMC20 Dynomotion Retrofit

Glad to hear you got it all working!

FWIW most CNC's simply save the last position of the toolchanger and thats it, no referencing the toolchanger on each start up. Id probably set that up as an...
  16. Re: Fadal 4020 Electrical Filter (for lack of better terms)

Id put the filter back in to start since that didnt cause your problem. The fact that the filter was buzzing confirms there is an overload, and problem is most likely downstream from there. Id doubt...

Oh ok, you have brand new ones. I missed that picture sorry. I was thinking you were probably using the original solenoid valves and maybe had something mixed up. I see what you mean now about the...

    Re: Hurco BMC20 Dynomotion Retrofit

Do you know the make/model of your solenoid valve? It looks like you have 2 coils based on your program using 2 different bit numbers. Most valves with 2 coils are 3 position, with the center...

I had a look through my init file and dont see anything else about that f being declared. Pretty sure that is everything. The first line is not indented in my init like it shows here on the...

Awesome! Post some videos of your progress.

The delay is real easy one. Just calculate the delay based on your current speed. Heres the code I use in my M5 program. I didnt bother to do the...

Looks like your on the right track. I like how you made a list of every step needed, thats important to know first. There are a few things I have going on outside of my toolchange program...

    Re: 4th axis feedrates

Yes, I eliminated the rapids and m code time to give a more direct comparison of the code we are concerned about. I just took an approximate time from the 2 videos of 4th axis rotating....

Heres a video. Runs better (still jerky) for a few seconds then its really slows down (starts and stops). And if I do a feed hold for a few seconds it will run faster again for a few seconds and then...
