    Re: DEAD FORUM OR TORMACH

Jesus... What's with all the adds all of a sudden????
  2. Re: Trouble drilling a 1/2" hole in aluminum with PCNC 770

Use Low gear, at 1600 RPM for the most Torque.
  3. Re: Trouble drilling a 1/2" hole in aluminum with PCNC 770

    Your RPM is too slow.
Tormach 770 motors are only 1 HP, and the ideal torque is at about 1600 RPM.
I would definately bump your RPM up to at least 1400, and feed at 2.8 IPM, peck about .070 deep....
  4. Re: Older PCNC1100 - do I need to tear it down to clean it?

TORMACH's are pretty easy to assemble/disassemble.
    Nothing surprising or too intricate.
Like Spinnetti said: It just takes time.
I think a good tear-down, cleaning, and oiling would do it some...

    Re: Tormach battery need

Yes, the coin battery in the CPU does need to be replaced.
And it's not easy to access either!
I got so frustrated trying to get to mine, that I took it into a computer repair shop, and let them do...
  6. Re: Does anyone use the Tormach 440 for 1018 cold rolled steel?

.075 radial might be too much load on the 440's motor.
    It might stall.
I would do more passes, with a lighter radial load. Maybe .015 per pass.
  7. M8 (coolant on) randomly stops working?

M8 randomly stops working? Does anyone else have this Glitch with their Pathpilot software and/or machine?

I will be running a batch of parts, and randomly, (out of nowhere on part# 10, or part...
  8. Re: Drilling Holes Through Copper with Extreme Accuracy

Make sure the parts are squared-up accurately, and you have a fixed stop on one end.
Then, Spot Drill FIRST! To help keep your long drill from "walking".
Spot Drill one side, then FLIP the part,...

    Re: Broken Arbor Cap

Possibly cracked during heat-treating, or just flawed steel would be my guess.
If it's a TORMACH toolholder, they may replace it for free.

My first TORMACH 5" vise totally cracked and blew-out...
  10. Re: What should I inspect for on a used Tormach mill?

I would run X,Y,Z axis' through their motions, both slowly and rapidly to make sure they're working.
Then reference X,Y,Z again, make sure they return home.
Also run the spindle slowly, then top...

    Re: Engraving problems

    THANKS PopsPipes!!

I installed STICKFONT V1.1 on my old, beat up laptop, and it worked great!
Easy to install, and very easy & basic software to use.
Saves your text right to G-code.
    Thanks a...

    Engraving problems

I'm trying to engrave large 2.5" letters with the pre-set TORMACH engraving fonts on my 770..
But, the pre-set fonts will mill around the outside of each letter, and then around the inside of each...
  13. Re: Starting side business in my garage! advice seeked!

You seem eager to jump into Machining, That's good, but be patient.
There's ALOT to learn. It takes years.
Machining isn't as easy as buying a machine, some fancy CAD/CAM software, pushing 'Cycle...
  14. Re: .007" egg-shaped holes while circle-milling

    Y axis is correct, X axis is over-sized .007".
    I'm guessing it's the Thrust-Bearings.
  15. .007" egg-shaped holes while circle-milling

I'm getting about .007" egg-shaped holes while trying to circle mill.
It appears to be happening in the X Axis.
Does this sound like a backlash issue, and what needs adjusting?
  16. Re: Tormach PCNC 770 Series 3 belt replacement?

I tried finding one at my big city belt and pulley supply store, but.
    NO LUCK.
They sold a "close" size, but when I tried to install it, it was about 1/2" too small.
I couldn't get it on no matter...

Is TORMACH in danger of pricing themselves out of their niche market?

    Re: Grid O' Holes

    Just my opinion,..
but I've never seen the need for a fixture plate.
It seems like another un-needed step in the process.

In 20 years, On both my little TORMACH, and on big full-sized CNC's, I...

    Re: Bad driver troubleshooting?

    Just a note:
In the owner's manual, under "Troubleshooting a defective driver", it states that a defective driver will not recognize the limit switch.
    I guess that's why it over-traveled while...

    Re: Bad driver troubleshooting?

The limit switch seems to be working.
I removed the front cover and pressed the limit switch by hand, and the X green light lit up on the display.
    So it's sending a signal.

    I guess I will be...

    Bad driver troubleshooting?

Has anyone had a Stepper Driver fail on them?
    I think mine needs replacing.

    Yesterday I turned on my 770 Series 3, and referenced X,Y, Z.
Y and Z referenced just fine.
X traveled all the way to...
  27. .010" egg-shaped while circle milling.

    Yikes!!

I was circle-milling some bores yesterday, and they were coming out .010" egg-shaped.
Y axis seems ok, as the bore was on size, but in X, I was getting +.010"

    Would this be a backlash...
  28. Re: Looking for help with tapping steel with 1100 and Tormach Tension/Comp head

Tapping with the Tension/Compression heads can be a struggle.
Sometimes the spring compresses on entry and you won't achieve accurate depths.
For thru-holes, I always go an extra 2-3 threads deep...
  29. Re: On average, how accurate has your Tormach been?

    I can hold +/- .003 easily on my 770.
    +/- .001 requires a little finesse.

Do you guys have any tips or tricks (Feeds & Speeds) for countersinking?
It seems like almost every time I countersink, my 770 chatters and vibrates like mad.
    Mostly with 82 Degree countersinks.
