sure - PM me price/info
I'm not a machinist nor aspire to be one. :-D
I am a Knifemaker and will only ever be making knife handles/parts...and only for me.
Like I said, production is not a priority.
Great advise so...
I have had my eye on a 1100 for a while, but now I'm starting to wonder if perhaps a 770 would work for me.
Based on the following (in random order :D), which would you recommend?
Budget is...
Has anyone published a list?
I've had my mill a year or so but am just "touching the surface" for sure. Would love to hear what everybody else considers as "must-haves" for their SX3. BTW, I...
I already have a grizzly g0619 and love it for what it is.
I would love to have a Tormach PCNC 1100, but can't spring for it just yet. I figure in 2-3 years I'll be ready to "move up".
In the...
I took you guys advice on paths and also found a loose set screw on a drive pulley.
Results are much improved.

However I am getting an odd "dent line" on one side.

what about which method will produce the best cuts?
I have cut times anywhere from 6 min to 50 min depending on the order/options I choose. I would think I ought to be able to rough cut pretty...
I'm not sure what you mean by push cuts. But I did go through the speed/feed test on precisebits.com website.

I found 4 files with that info in it. It was...
Yes - all my cuts are climb cuts. I leave 0.005 after a roughing cut and finish up with a planar finish cut.
I am having a real hard time generating the right toolpaths to cut my parts.
I spent the entire week last week trying different things and with every single one of them, there was an error...
I found this one at MSC
MSC #: 41244716
I'm an idiot - I ordered 3/8" shank thinking my router would accept them. Nope, just 1/4". no adapters available either.
louieatienza - I picked up a pack of those onsrud bits. Do you have a...
Cool - just saw your link. I think I missed it when I replied.
I'll check them out.

I drill G10 with TiN HSS everyday in my drill press. I understand that milling at high speed in more dimensions will wear it out faster. I guess I'll just have to try and see what happens.
I...
What about these?
30855A47
and
30855A41
Both are Cobalt, 4 flute, with corner radius
I am setting up a Romaxxcnc HS-1 and need some advice on which bits to use.
I will be cutting parts out of Phenolic (micarta - similar to circuitboard, but thicker 1/4"-3/8") as well as G10...
I'm still on the fence on this issue, guys. Need more input.
Basically what I need to know is how much machine do I really need for cutting knife handles from micarta?
I do think I could...
My concern is start-up costs. I have no idea what a multi-spindle cnc router will cost compared to one of these others that I can get for around $3k.
I'm not getting into this to make handles...
Here's a link to the one I'm looking at:
CNC Shark Routing System - Rockler Woodworking Tools
Dan
Ok guys...I think I might be able to finally get one of these around New Years....LOL
I saw in my email the other day that Rockler now has a CNC Router machine.
Anybody have any experience...
Thanks for the great response, guys. I replied to the PMs.
Here are the specs I'm looking for:
Screw head is 0.312" diameter and 0.375" long
Shaft is 0.218" diameter and the female end is...
I need bolts like these:

But made from aluminum (the above are brass and stainless steel)
using 5/16" diameter solid barstock (like the...
Pablo - looks like a lot of fun. Sorry it got stolen! :(
mcphill - thanks for the reply - that's exactly what I am looking for.
I don't mind the learning curve. I'm looking to have this set up "this year"....LOL (vs "next")
I just want to know if...
See quote above - I do plan on leaving them on the sheath (no loose parts). I was going to cut it down to almost bottom and then leave "tabs" like you say. I'll come back in with a bandsaw to...
Here are some pics - you guys know best - let me know if a 3-axis or 4-axis would be better for creating handles like these (from 2 different knives):
...
Correct - I think I only need a 3 axis machine. There is contouring in the handle but a 3 axis should be able to handle it - from what I've seen on cnc router videos.
If my best option is to...
I'm a knifemaker (www.kosterknives.com) interested in exploring CNC-made handles. I've been dissatisfied with the CNC companies I've tried to work with so far...mostly because of tooling/setup...
Ok, guys. Thanks for the offers. I have sent emails to all that have requested. Sorry for the delay...kinda crazy around here.
Anyway, let me know when you come up with a quote. You can email...
I am looking to have a sawback milled onto a knife spine like this:

I've been putting these in "by hand" with a triangle...
