I used this build as a guide, but ended up doing my own design: https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-CNC-Router/
800/500/300mm linear rails (SBR 30/16/12)

I'm trying to do a (what should be) simple test with a marker drawing some random numbers.
I can't seem to get anything to work right though. I tried the draw thing Mach3 has built in, and "desk...

for sure! dialing in the steps per inch right now :)
Thanks! once everything is final I will probably tear the machine down and powder coat it :)
Been working on this over the past 3 winters. Got all 3 axis working, just need to finish up a few odds & ends now :)

FIXED!!!! It was the stupid ACPI mode!!! switched to Standard PC and everything is wonderful. Thank you all!!! (ger21 you nailed it) :)
ya 32bit fresh XP install everything in startup off, everything not needed in BIOS off, services-idk, no mention of that in Mach3 requirements. CPU usage 0% anyhow
ugh, might just take the easy...

there's a ton of spikes, I think we might be on to something :) kernel was 25. how to fix? thank you
parallel port yes. I ran drivertest. starting off saying pulsing too slow, then too fast, then excellent, stable, excellent. I'm not sure what I'm looking for though?
I tried the step & direction...
Thanks, will check all that. There is definitely something consistent keeping the motors from running smoothly. I adjusted the velocity and accel low (very low - to the point I wouldn't want them...
I've been meaning to upload a revised video. I tried the steps at 2uS and its exactly the same. the axis moves smoothly without the motor hooked up. I went ahead and disconnected it anyway, same...
Didn't get a reply & I've been eager to get this working normally. So I ordered motors with lower inductance (2.8mH, everything else same) and they sound exactly the same
Automation Tech thought...
I'm working with Automation Technology & Gecko to get this resolved right now. Will post the culprit once found
thank you for the reply. I have tried running the motors at 48V, and their very noisy & not smooth at all. I'm not sure if this is a motor tuning issue?
here's a video:

I purchased a package with the Gecko G540, 48V 7.3 amp power supply, and 382oz/in steppers with 7mH inductance :/
according to the G540 manual, the power supply would need to be 84V for this to...
that is pretty sweet. putting loctite on the screws then?
Actually been working on this a couple years now, just a little over the winters.
Here's where I'm at currently. Comments/suggestions welcome :)

800/500/300mm Linear rails

What did you guys use to cut your ACME lead screw to length? was going to use a bandsaw with something over the threads to protect them. is that pretty much it? just wanted to check if this is a good...
Thanks for all the replies. Think I'm going to try the transfer screws. I have access to a lathe, so will try and make my own :)
CNCCookbook: Make Your Own Transfer Screws
Looking for tips on how to transfer the bolt patterns. From the SBR Bearing blocks
They don't have through-holes, so I can't just transfer punch them. I've made a plate for my Y axis and it has a...
Does anyone have a jig for transferring the bolt patterns for SBR bearing blocks?
my apologies, I was assuming it was yours.
I got confused because in the first video it looks like a deflection test, then in the 2nd video it looks more like a runout test with a little pushing.
in the 2nd video, why were you turning the drill bit instead of pushing on it like in the 1st video?
I'm building a machine based on 800/500/300mm SBR rails
at first I was going to do a moving gantry, but decided against it. building a fixed gantry entirely out of steel now. Some of the Z axis...
update - scored a piece of rectangular tubing 5x3 .25 wall 30" long @ scrap price :)
I'm thinking of (I know, may change.. lol) cutting holes in the gantry upright plates the shape of the...
my bad I read it wrong "less electronics" lol
