Re: Roundness accuracy on PCNC 1100

I use a left hand boring bar in a boring head on my 1100 . On a hole the size of 1/2" diameter I drill first then bore undersize with the boring head then using a floating reamer holder ream to size....

Re: Roundness accuracy on PCNC 1100

On my 1100 after roughing a round hole out by trepanning using a 1/2" endmill, I finish by boring using a single point tool. The roundness is then determined by spindle runnout. I have done this for...

  4. Re: Lost drill hole size accuracy in drilling operations

BUMP the main point was that for precision holes I don't rely on drilling but use the boring head and single point bore the hole.

  5. Re: Lost drill hole size accuracy in drilling operations

For locating pin holes I first drill then single point bore and then using this floating reamer holder I built using a 3/8" TTS holder ream to size.

Re: PCNC 1100 y axis stroke mod

Looks like a Kurt D688 vise. I added a subplate underneath the D688 and freed up an inch of Y-axis travel from using vise keys on the middle slot with only the vise. Also I machined two removable...

    Re: Tapping a 6-32UN hole

Set the WAYBAC to the 1980's when Westec was held every year in DTLA at the convention center with the gigantic night sky star map inlaid on the ground floor. Tap Magic had a demo where one could...

    Re: Tapping a 6-32UN hole

Exactly. That's what I just did tapping a 4-40 hole in a SS part. Had plenty of head room this time but since this is a one off part and difficult SS material I used the Fisher micro tap guide in a...

    Re: Tapping a 6-32UN hole

I do it all the time with my Procunier tapping head with the 1100. I have tapped 10s of thousands of blind 4-40 holes really fast with the Procunier tapping head on the 1100 and lots of 2-56 blind...

    Re: Tapping a 6-32UN hole

Yep I thread mill on threads greater than 1/4 or M6. For aluminum and smaller threads like 4-40 I find Balax form tap in a Procunier tapping head works extremely well for me. Not only are the...

    Tapping a 6-32UN hole

Tapped a single 6-32UN hole. The real issue was how to hold a large odd shaped part and locate, drill hole, and tap the 6-32 hole. My solution was to use the same fixture made to hold the part...

    Re: Sprutcam 8 worth it?

Fusion makes you put your work on the cloud. No Thanks. Also I own SprutCAM software not borrow the software like Fusion and are at the whim of Autodesk.

    Re: Sprutcam 8 worth it?

Well I don't use FORTRAN IV on 80 column punch cards anymore like I did back in 1971 nor DOS though. However Gcode hasn't advanced that far from it's paper tape beginnings ;-)

    Trepanning old school

While I normally trepan nowadays on the Tormach using an end mill I recently trepanned old school on my manual lathe. Trepanned a 6.25" diameter plug from 10" x 1" 6061-T6 round on the lathe using a...

    Re: Well, I did it.
