I was in the exact same situation as you and we went with a used Lynx 200, with the tail stock and 6" chuck. For the work we were doing the diameter was not the problem but the fact that the Z travel...

I am in Edmonton, and we brought up a Tormach last summer. It is being used in a machine shop environment.
It is a good machine, dont know about doing any high speed grinding with it or helical...
I just pulled mine out on my Lynx, put on a glove and pull with a little wiggle.
Im in Edmonton, and have machined a part or two in my life. (Im a red seal, not just a CNC dork)
What kind of hobby work do you do?
Exactally what machines do you have, seems like an awful lot...
Im not sure how much chedder you are looking to drop, but looking at your work a Tormach might be right up your ally.

Yup I agree, when I feed to aggressively the machine seems to "loose a couple steps". I never knew what exactly was happening, but it sure causes problems when it does.
Its almost an art form...

I found a used Daewoo on Machinetools.com, and had it imported from the USA to Canada.
Probably the largest source that I have ever found, there was nothing available local so I went that route....
I agree, it looks pretty hoky to me, I would never shell out any money for something like that.
I have made several O ring molds for other customers in the last year, and a lot of rubber molds in general.
Are you looking for a compresion mold for rubber or injecting a different material?

Absolutely, the coolant stays as the water evaporates off. My coolant rep was telling me one of his customers added 35 pails of straight water in a month, with only a couple of mixed coolant. You...

Try downloading a trial version of Bobcad, I am not sure if you can produce code with it or not but it may be worth looking into.
Programming anything 3-d or complex using Autocad and g-code is...

I imported a CNC lathe to Canada that I found on this site, its world wide and a lot of machinery dealers seem to use it.

Tormach sent me a little ferrite thing to clamp around the cable from the PC to the mill, and it seems to be working really well so far. About a day and a half and no alarms yet.
I have my fingers...
rossrods, for what you are trying to do it should work fine. We are a start up shop also and it was worth the investment. For the first 6 months it ran fine, just now the noise problem is a real...

We need a little more description if you want a little help.
That is why they make .001" under size reamers they even call them dowel pin reamers. I have a little trick that you can maybe use to solve your problems.
Take a ball bearing of something roundish...
What do you mean by "snag grinder", I have been just using a bench grinder and its working fine for me. I thought hey if I can thin the web on a 1/8" twist drill then grinding a pin flat should be a...
