  1. Re: Wood construction, enclosed 2x4 CNC router build, dust collection, vacuum table.

Uh, I have a new hero!

Carpentry AND DIY-CNC in one beautiful fusion...brings a tear to a man's eye... Great motivation!

Time to go make dust! And, oh yeah - thanks for sharing the artwork. ...

    Re: Bull's CNC Router

Thanks, that's good info. I'm still tinkering with a high end desktop unit that I'm still fiddling with, but now that i'm making progress-I can see the possibilities and have the bug...

    I...

    Re: Bull's CNC Router

    Very cool! I love it.

So, in operation, are you getting enough accuracy/repeat-ability for woodworking projects? We're not talking machining precision metal projects here, so even a hundredth of...

Re: should i even bother with water cooling?

The phone apps that are used for doing sound level measurements are actually quite accurate; I'm an Industrial Hygienist (so that's my gig) and we tested them against some of our lab instrumentation....
  5. Re: For an advanced hobbiest -Which inverter/spindle?

Wow. And I thought bringing 240 volt, 300 Amps to the house was marginal, as I split a 100 amp sub-panel off it for just my garage... Of course, I live in Texas, so... I've got a neighbor that has...

Re: should i even bother with water cooling?

    coherent, -

What about noise levels of air versus water cooled? I like the idea of simplicity and will be upgrading my Kress spindle, which is crazy loud for my tastes... I don't have an issue...
  7. Re: For an advanced hobbiest -Which inverter/spindle?

Uh, good point...however FYI -my motivation (personally) isn't performance as it is ease of setup, standardization and quality. I have wondered if those vector VFDs have any utility with a cheap...
  8. Re: For an advanced hobbiest -Which inverter/spindle?

Yeah - for me, not as direct - lots and lots of spam advertising on top of anything meaningful for the search.

But - we're there - thanks again guys - will do my best to pay it forward.

  9. Re: For an advanced hobbiest -Which inverter/spindle?

So what search terms do you use to find these? Or, how'd you search? Seems I'm missing some info. to get to this point.

    Again, much appreciated!
  10. Re: For an advanced hobbiest -Which inverter/spindle?

Now we're talking! Name brand, going to be in Dallas in a few weeks anyway and it's a name brand. Actually, I'd/am going to spring for a little larger for $245 and get the 2.2 kw rated one.

Re: should i even bother with water cooling?

You might not want to use vacuum, especially if Festo (push-to-lock) fittings are used as they work great under pressure, but leak under vacuum. I'd concede on pressure values, I'm just using...

Re: should i even bother with water cooling?

Pressure test your setup. Hook up an air gauge and hook in line a tire valve type fitting. everything available from hardware store. Pressure up low-at up to twice hydraulic pressure, maybe-though...
  13. Re: For an advanced hobbiest -Which inverter/spindle?

I can really relate to Goemon's position- I am, whether unfortunate or not used to the method of on-line research to figure out my product issues and have had to learn how to discern between online...
  14. Re: For an advanced hobbiest -Which inverter/spindle?

OK, a little background- I'm pretty technically adept with a strong engineering and programming background and some electronics experience. I don't have a problem researching and studying to figure...
  15. Re: For an advanced hobbiest -Which inverter/spindle?

OK, fair enough- I'll admit I'm ignorant wrt spindles and inverters. I picked up that inverter/spindle control from Mach3 on the HY inverters isn't a plug and play affair, that you have to down load...
  16. For an advanced hobbiest -Which inverter/spindle?

ok, so I waded through hours of pages and am shopping for an upgrade to my air cooled router/spindle. I'm thinking water cooled is fine, because I like quiet. Running Mach 3, typical cheap "mach 3"...

Re: Y and Z limit switches inputs not working

Sorry I can't help, just finishing my HobbyCNC board up now.

How do you hook up limit switches to the hobbycnc board? I'm not seeing an obvious on-the-PCB solution, but understand it's capable.

I really don't know very well as I'm much newer at this than you, but it sounds like you are loosing steps for some reason. Everything moving smoothly when power is off, etc?
