  1. Question about adapter and taps in floating holder

Our shop has a Parlec floating holder with a Bilz adapter, holding a roll forming 10-32 for aluminum parts. I've used this alright for a while, but now having problems with the tap pulling out of...

  3. Question about setting X Y part origins

When I first started working with Fadals at my present job, I was shown a quick way to set a part origin (That they would use for engraving) by typing "SETX" enter, "SETY" enter, and "SL,1" enter...

    Re: Tapping program question

Thanks, Larry - interesting about the Fadal being more precise than the others.

I didn't get an answer here soon enough, so I just went ahead and experimented. Found some peck tapping programs...

    Peck tapping question for Fadal

So, I learned since my first post about this below that the spindle WILL stay synchronized - someone told me about "peck tapping". But I'm still wondering - can I add an M1 between each command for...

    Re: Need tapping help

Thanks for your input, Jim and rcs.

Yes, I forgot to mention - rigid tapping. As far as oversize holes: yeah, naturally, you can't go as far with a fine thread as with a coarse thread. I'm going...

    Need tapping help

I'm putting 1/4-28 threads into some 303 stainless fasteners I'm making. Blind hole in parts 1" long, so drilling .950 deep and minimum thread depth is called out at .750 (Why they need a 1/4" fine...

    Tapping program question

Regarding a 1993 Fadal VMC3016 with rigid tapping:
If I have an M1 after tapping a hole to a particular depth (To blow out chips/oil), can I program to go back in a second time (deeper) and expect...

    Re: Question about lubrication requirements

Thanks for the input. I called Fadal, as well, and of course they said Vactra 2 for the screws/ways and Turbine oil (Was DTE 797, now replaced by DTE 732) for the spindle. I've got my boss...
  11. Truing up lathe chuck jaws by grinding in place?

I'm working for a company that has a old Lodge & Shipley lathe with 11-inch diameter, 6-jaw chuck. It's really tough to get a part to not runout badly. You can feel when you're tightening down on a...

Re: Trouble with spiral flute taps

Thanks for the input, guys. Yeah - I don't know why somebody would spec a #10 hole with threads 1 inch deep. I'm just doing what the customer's print says.

So, I decided I needed to try...

    Trouble with spiral flute taps

So far, my experience with spiral flute taps hasn't been great; they just seem to be too fragile, even in aluminum. Obviously, very desirable for getting the chips up and out the top of a blind...
  15. Re: Help! What's wrong with this program?

No, pretty sure that's not it. I know the machine uses the diameter for the D value, and the width of the slot is perfect - only the ends are each .015 short - that's what's so strange.

    Question about CNC tapping

Although I've been in the business for over 30 years, I've managed to never tap with a CNC mill before. New place I'm working at has a Fadal VMC4020 and I need to be able to do this with it. I...

    Drill programming question

Occasionally, I must drill several hundred small holes, depth about 12 x diameter, in a phenolic board. I use carbide circuit board drills which are limited to about .3" depth. So, for these deeper...
