Re: Reducing voltage from power supply

    I don’t think I’d worry about it.

    Update:
The DMM servos showed up in 6 weeks just as they promised. I have them temp mounted now and have moved on to the other electronics.

Attached is a pic of the x-axis install. They fit with...
  3. Re: what vfd to buy for closed loop control of 7.5hp Yaskawa spindle motor?

I think Centroid will accept that input and display a virtual load meter on the screen, at least the Oak & ALLIN1DC controls.
  4. Re: what vfd to buy for closed loop control of 7.5hp Yaskawa spindle motor?

The automation direct G4 series will handle larger motors with single phase input but don't seem to have the option of adding an encoder card. They put one hell of a derating on them for single...
  5. Re: Anyone use Centroid control on a VMC?

Thanks Marty. I saw that and that's actually what turned me on to Centroid controls. Not sure how willing they would be to sell me their PLC programming but if I get stuck it's worth a try.
  6. Re: I bought a Haas Mini Mill basket case

Mactec I thought those had a 3 phase motor on the spindle?

I guess some pictures of the spindle motor and servo tags would go a long way here. Your z axis might be a different servo than the x and...

This was out of an old VF-1 I’m converting to new single phase electronics. I was thinking VF0 and not mini when I posted. It’s a monster of a transformer that weighs about 75lbs.
  8. Re: 2012 haas mini mill 208-240 volt transformer/electrical cabinet photo?

Not sure if it’s compatible but I just pulled one of those “polyphase” transformers out of a VF1. It has the 4 sets of inputs to adjust voltage to 240.
  9. Re: Adding Vintage Milliamp meter to laser cutter

External resistor makes me think it's made to use with a shunt. If that's the case it's really reading mV across the shunt(resistor) and not directly measuring current.
  10. Re: AC Servo motor and drive replacement

I know DMM has at least one servo in their NEMA series that has 5/8 shafts. There are also servo couplers available with about any size reducer so you can probably match up a metric shaft pretty...
  11. Re: Anyone use Centroid control on a VMC?

I will do that. I haven't bought a control yet so I was hesitant to post the question on their forum. I think I've pretty well decided I'm going to go with the Oak though.

    Added some pics. Not...
  12. Re: Anyone use Centroid control on a VMC?

Thanks. I found one post by a guy asking similar questions. It wasn't really answered. I guess I'll find out soon enough. I'm pretty sure the spindle orient can be handled by the system, just not...
  13. Anyone use Centroid control on a VMC?

I'm curious what it would take to get a controller like the Oak to work with a ATC. Lots of custom PLC programming, or is a carousel tool changer pretty routine thing that would be sort of plug and...
  14. Re: Changing to Ethernet on Haas mini mill and vf2 ?

Have you considered the USB adapters? I haven't used one but they seem to be pretty popular for the older machines.

Thank you for the tip. I already went ahead and ordered the servos and drives from DMM.

I guess I have around six weeks to work on sorting out the rest of the electronics and make some adapter...

Yes I’m starting to see that 1.3 might have been overkill. I was looking at them because the shaft size/length would have made bolting them up easy. The next size down in the DHT series was a...

Re: Servos for old Haas retrofit

Yeah those connectors are what's really eating my lunch here. I've attempted to upload a picture of the x-axis situation. If I were to hang the servo out another 6 inches, I think it would allow a...

Re: Servos for old Haas retrofit

It’s in really good shape mechanically. It’s too clean to have ever done any real work. Story I got was that it had a bad spindle drive. The seller scavenged all the controls and sold them to another...

Re: Servos for old Haas retrofit

    That's the one.

I emailed a couple of vendors to see if there are any lower profile options. There isn't much more room around the y-axis mount either.

Re: Servos for old Haas retrofit

Looks like I've hit a bit of a snag with the servo replacement. I took some measurements and the DMM servos aren't even close to fitting on the x-axis. I didn't realize how close the bottom of the...

Re: Servos for old Haas retrofit

I looked at those couplers the other day and dismissed them not realizing they had a whole slew of bore reducers available. That’s just what I’d need.

I’ll wait any see if the DHT motors are still...

Re: Servos for old Haas retrofit

That looks like them. Goofy 3.4” bolt pattern and all. Thank you.

These old ones have a huge counterweight/chain arrangement that makes the spindle stay put with no motor attached. I only know...

    Servos for old Haas retrofit

I’ve got a ‘93 VF-1 I’m retrofitting. I’ve been looking at DMM’s DHTA15 servos, which are 1.3kw and Nema 42 frame, for all 3 axis. I think the shaft size and length would let me re-use the old flex...
