Have you looked at Ahren's R&P drive at cncrouterparts.com? This is a good way to go for a machine the size you intend to build.
What if you remove the spindle commands in your original circle and square file?
Have you tried writing G-code that moves Z up and down and check if X and Y move? Just a thought.

Check out cncrouterparts.com.
I can answer the first question. Power supply for the G540 has to be between +18V and +50V DC and a current rating of 2/3 times total current rating of stepper motors with max of 3.5A per motor. ...
I haven't back through your thread, but I am guessing that you have a dual drive X axis, and you need to drive 2 steppers with the same step and dir signals. To do that in EMC2, pick XYZ...
On your advice not to go for a mirror finish, were you refering to the plug, mold, or both?

For stepper motors, torque drops off as speed increases. This drop off will be steeper with lower voltage. Higher volatge therefore allows for more usable torque at higher speeds for the same...
Stepconf does not genrate the chargepump signal. You would need to temporarily disable the chargepump on the BOB to use the jog keys in stepconf. When actually running EMC, you can have the...
Yes, adding it to the start of each file should do it. Also, a G64 command--which I think is constant velocity mode--should undo the G61, if desired.
Great machine, by the way. I'm thinking of...
Try executing the G61 command to switch to exact patch mode and avoid rounded corners.

I only have experience with the Gecko G-251's, which are basically similar to the G-250's inside the G-540. I use a PMDX-122 BOB and run EMC2 and everyhting has been fairly easy to set up.
Based...
You are very welcome! I am looking forward to seeing your machine in action.

Jeff,
You are probably correct...but no need to give Arturo a call. Senna came up with the simple and perfect solution, and that is what matters.

The common termonals for pins 2 to 9 are interconnected and can be configured to be +5 or GND depending on jumper X7. Jumper X5 allows for the selection of either pull-up or pull-down resistors for...
I just checked the website and it says the jumper sets common for pins 2 to 9--the step and direction outputs. I also checked the wiring guides and it SEEMS from the illustrations that for the...
The C10 board has a jumper that allows you to select +5v or ground as common. If you leave this connection open (take out the jumper), everything should work.

I agree. You have a much better drawing too. :)
No problem...I should have been more clear. I attached a drawing to illustrate the 2 methods.
The common terminal and the supply ground in the BOB will have a pcb trace connecting them (the...

The description is correct about the resistor being in series. The wire from term 12 of the G-251 goes to one end of the resistor, and the other end goes to the signal ground of the BOB.
The way...
The recommended resistors did cure the hissing noises for my setup (4 G-251's connected to a PMDX-122 BOB), however I wired them in series between the logic grounds of the driver and the BOB. I see...
The charge pump signal (Pin 17) should connect to the charge pump circuit on the breakout board, not the relay. Pin 17 would switch from on and off at a certain frequency to signal the BOB that the...
Nate,
My table is 72" x 37.5", so I would be needing 6' rails and racks for the X, and 3' for the Y.
Regards,
Debetto
I am building a 6' x 3' inch router and plan to use R&P for both X and Y. I'd be interested in 6 foot racks and rails.

Exactly what I was thinking Jeff...I guess I was being overly cautious!
I was hoping soemone from Gecko would answer. I guess I could always go to the store and get smaller screws. I just can't imagine having to rely on the black anodized finish for insulation if it is...
Thanks for the reply, but I think I wasn't too clear with my original question.
I have 4 G-251's which came with aluminum plates attached. I read in the manual that these are connected to motor...
When mounting 4 G-251's to a common heatsink, do I have to make sure that the aluminum plates are/remain electrically insulated (by the black anodize coating) from the heatsink? I am not sure if I...
