Make things..... you mean like..... more things to go on the machine right!

Man, I've almost forgotten why I wanted one in the first place. My second one is it for me, though. There...

I would interpret Alpha as in wolves. This is the best custom work I have seen in here that I can recall. You guys are making a top-notch machine and really kind of helped prod me into making...

Re: New (to me) WM30 mill.

    The chip pan is complete!

This thing is STOUT! Need to get it washed down and some primer on it pretty quick. Don't want to let any rust get started on it. It weighs every bit as much as the...

Re: New (to me) WM30 mill.

The chip pan is ordered and underway. Will be 12 to 15 days before I get delivery. I got a number of quotes and all were within 20 dollars of each other so I just picked the place that had the best...

    Re: THE GRIZZ

As long as there is no play in the spindle, sounds like you done good. Very small changes in preload can have a pretty major impact on running temp.

    Re: THE GRIZZ

I would call that pretty good. If there is no play in the in the spindle and it's holding at 128 that's not too bad. My new TRBs ran at around 135 for a while but after a few months that came down...

Re: New (to me) WM30 mill.

That stand was selected because it has a fairly wide stance and heavy gauge construction, also because I am not able to weld up my own. It's a separate stand that Grizzly sells. I suspect it's made...

Don't say anything. It's a plate to lift it with, not a museum piece ;) It got the job done and will get it done the next time too.

Re: New (to me) WM30 mill.

So I am tired after this weekend. Did a lot of work on getting more cut outs planned and executed and installing the power pigtails into the cabinet. I also took the opportunity to straighten up...

Re: Homann Designs TM20LV (BF20,G0704) conversion

Yep, and the safety interlocks you don't have to think much about are the best kind. That's why I like this site. I'd likely never think of that either until a mishap enlightened me.

We talked about design changes that might help get the price down. He mentioned that they needed to use a special-order sheet size because of some of the dimensions. By knocking 4" off the right...

Re: New (to me) WM30 mill.

Good info. Mine will measure in at just about 70" x 30" x 9". First quote is about $700. I'll send out to a few other places as well, but that doesn't seem outrageously far off since it's about...

Do you mind sharing what your dimensions were and maybe your shop? If the my locals all want stupid money for this it might be worth the freight charge to use them.

Thanks! High praise from the current king of beautiful conversion work!

The SSR heatsinks really worked well in addition to looking nice. The SSR went from too-hot-to-touch to just over room...

Re: Man it's nice to have your own CNC

Yeah, One of my favorites was when I needed a spanner wrench for the removal of my lathe chuck. I worked up one in CAD and milled it out of some spare AL plate and then pressed in a dowel pin. ...

    Re: BF30 IR-compensation settings

Definitely give it a shot with adjusting. I'm just pointing out that you may see the speed drop under load in normal milling at over 1000 RPM if you eliminate the over-rev at very low speeds under...

    Re: BF30 IR-compensation settings

It's a bit of a dance. There should be an IR Comp pot on the spindle driver board that lets you adjust that. You want to set that so it maintains speed or maybe a bit over when you really clamp...

Yes, you see "personality" used in components that have variable inputs, outputs, or internal computations. One of my favorites is 'logic'. That's a logic gate that can have AND,OR, XOR outputs...

Re: Man it's nice to have your own CNC

It is indeed pretty nice to have. :) I find often I don't want to deal with the design cycle to make a custom inexpensive part rather than adapt what's out there but this is one of those perfect...

Re: Homann Designs TM20LV (BF20,G0704) conversion

Ok, I am totally going to rip off the idea of putting that on the front of the mill. I just need need a spindle on/off and speed up/down buttons and maybe a start/abort. That would be awesome.

Yeah, for me the syntax was not so hard. Working out where it needed to be inserted and what the values needed to be was the more difficult part. Pencil and paper and some time worked that out. ...

Nicely done! Glad you got it sorted out. Once you wrap your head around lincurve it's pretty easy to get the response proportional as it should be. The LinuxCNC HAL file is daunting but it's...

Have you tried looking at the voltage output without the VFD attached. Is the BoB producing 10V out when you hit max RPM? Is it moving up and down in proportion to the commanded speed?

I knocked out a few of the cutout cover panels I'll be using the last couple of days. Since I'll be making several, I knocked up a simple fixture from 1/4" plate so each one isn't a custom job. All...
