  1. Re: Is Fusion360 a good alternative to CAM in SolidWorks?

Yes, its a good alternative for your described use case. Go give it a download. It's free if you're a startup/educator

Re: Fair price for my Grizzly X2 CNC ?

Sorry, but the previous poster isn't wrong. If you total up your time and cost I don't doubt you would be near the price of a Tormach, in which case, why would someone bother with your machine?...

    Re: STEPPER CONFIGURATION QUESTIONS.

Dont apologise for asking, we've all been in your position, I want your mill to run too. haha.

The wiring looks okay to me. Use Stepconf to assign your pins and you should be off to a running...

    Re: G0704 'Z' Axis Stepper Brake-With Ballscrews!

Yep, I had a 66lb strut made for me by a local manufacturer, it works great. I'd suggest it as well.

    Re: G0704 'Z' Axis Stepper Brake-With Ballscrews!

I was fairly sure that Hoss has a little blurb about just switching the polarity on his motors to prevent this from happening.

Re: One shot oiler for BF20 milling machine

Wow, what excellent information! Thanks for posting that!

I'd be very interested in a kit. I have the usual pump that most people buy off eBay, but require the fittings/lines/manifold etc.
  7. Re: G0704 Spindle Mods and balancing ... Very cool!!!

    Re: New lathe spindle

Yes, you should face/bore your jaws to your machine. But moreover, make sure that your spindle is turning parallel to your bed ways. Using a dial indicator is your best bet, held in or on your...

  10. Re: Gauging interest: pneumatic drawbar kit for G0704

Oop, yep, odd, must have been signed on on my phone on my old account.

I'll be able to get you guys some weight/size/other information once I return to the shop on Jan 2nd.
  11. Re: Gauging interest: pneumatic drawbar kit for G0704

Delivery time would be around three weeks, seeing as that's how long it took for my cylinder to arrive from the time I placed my PO plus a week for me to assemble/test/pack/ship them.
  12. Re: maintain manual function with lathe cnc conversion?

The main problem is that your application of force for the Z axis changes direction when you add a ballnut/ballscrew arrangement. I would imagine the easiest thing to do would be to run dual-shaft...

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Clean your pulleys with alcohol to remove any gums or varnish. Make perfectly sure your belts are aligned and not overtensioned.

Re: G0704 Z ball nut oiling

You would install a zerk fitting (M6 thread usually) into your ballnut and run a flexable line all the way up and then 180 degrees back down the column to your nut, it will move with the axis up and...

Re: G0704 2 HP 3 phase spindle motor upgrade

As long as you're geared correctly and have the right spindle bearings I wouldnt expect any issues! Make sure your motor is inverter duty however, they're designed to handle the extra heat generated...

    Re: Poly-V belt sheaves

    Poly-V belt sheaves

    Hey all,

I'm trying to design up my belt drive for the new 1.5HP Marathon motor I have on my G0704, but am having a hard time finding any small bore sheaves for poly-V belts. I'd like to avoid...

    Re: sharpening carbide end mills

Its not just your time machining, its the time that you could be NOT machining that's valuable. If taking the opportunity cost of sharpening your own endmills is worth it, then thats your best bet.

    Re: G0704 motor replacement

This is why I have built in a 70lb counterweight gas spring into my Z axis. Also, it will fit quite well on the mill, as others have done so in the past.
