Sharp SV 2412
Fanuc Oi Mate MC
I've had the combination drive repaired 2 times prior to this for the same problem.
I turned this machine back on...
There's definitely a way to do this (I have another thread where I post the full method to set this up) but it's definitely more complicated than just drip feeding from the indexer control. I thought...
I'd prefer to leave the E-Stop on my machine alone and find another way to halt the rotary mid-move. This is the indexer I'm looking at: https://www.indexdesignscnc.com/tr6
I like the way you think! I'll have to see what relays trip when the reset button is hit.
Probably tie the indexer controller to this relay....
Yes that's correct. Normally the control sends commands to the indexer, but in my case I don't have enough memory to run modern CAM generated program without using the memory card. The memory card...
Im considering upgrading my machine (Sharp 2412 VMC) with a standalone indexer that has it's own control box. I'm currently drip feeding programs on my machine with a memory card, so I'll have to...
Thanks this is really helpful. You work for index designs? I've been talking with Bob about getting a TR-6 but since I'm a newbie to rotaries I wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting myself...
Ok so I think what I mentioned above is correct. Here's a snippet from another forum where a user successfully tries to do what I want to do:
The parameters in question are:
0020 - I/O CHANNEL: Selection of an input/output device or selection of input
device in the foreground
0021 - Setting of the output device in the foreground...
Yes thanks for bumping this thread and checking in!
I basically went from having a good chunk of free time with my old job to almost zero free time with a new job about a month after I started...
It ended up being a bad power supply board that had to be reworked. TriStar CNC performed the repair. Some bad resistors on the dc circuit close to the lugs.
Update: I removed all the tools from the umbrella and let the machine place the phantom tool back in the carousel, now everything is good.
I noticed the operator's manual mentions a manual for the tool changer. Does anyone know where to find this? Or maybe the make and model of the tool changer? I'm guessing a Taiwanese company lol. I'm...
I spoke with Index Designs (in California) and they were fairly confident their indexer + control box would work just fine on our sharp machines.
Yeah I think that sounds like a fun project. I'd like to build an indexer with a high quality reduction gear (cross roller bearings?) and servo controlled by mach 3 software. The side effect would be...
Ok Here's another (sad) update. The Mate control won't do simultaneous 4th (pretty much expected that) even though the ladder has everything present. Additionally, the I/O link servo drive is not...
Well this is an interesting development, apparently my ladder has everything needed for a 4th axis. Now they're checking my parameters. More to come...

This is what adding an I/O link would look like on my Oi Mate MC control. Bill you're right though... its super tempting to hook one of these units up, but it would...
Do you have any experience with beta I/O links? I would love to keep it simple with that if possible. So I just get the drive and connect it to the I/O on the control and im good to go? Match it with...
Thinking I could use a Galil single axis control box with a stepper motor and build a custom rotary:
DMC-3x01x | Galil
Drawing inspiration from RCaffin...
If you have any more information about hooking up an I/O link I'd like to know more about doing it. Are there any resources for this kind of stuff? I guess just the manuals for the drive I suppose.
Interesting. Shows how little I know about this. I would definitely be interested in adding an I/O link drive. Hell, I'd even enjoy building my own rotary using a fanuc servo and off the shelf...
That's precisely what I wanted to try and do, but the optic cable from the beta I/O link would have to plug into a spare optic port on my main servo/PSU drive which only has one optic port (being...
That's what I'm inclined to think too, but I've seen a few people online with a 4th using this control. I'd love to just get the non-mate control since it would just be a grand or two, but obviously...
Well bad news, the combo PSU/Servo drive on my machine does not have the extra fiber optic port that the 4th axis drive would connect to. It looks like I might not be able to add a 4th very easily to...
I'll have to do some more investigating then. My manual jog pendant has a switch for 4th axis so I'm hoping that's a good sign! I'll report back here as I get more info.
Machine: 2008 Sharp SV2412
Control: Fanuc Oi Mate MC
My understanding is that the Oi MC control comes 4th axis ready whereas the Oi Mate MC control does not, but could still have a 4th added to...
What did you end up doing to get it fixed?
I have a 2008 regular 2412 with the Oi Mate MC control. I backed up the SRAM but I can't guarantee it would work for your machine. I bought this machine used and I can tell the params have been...
I have a 2412 and I'd like to know too, I'm considering getting a rotary indexer. Not sure which ones (if any) could be used on these machines with the Oi Mate MC control.
