  1. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

Well it has been like 140f out in the shop, but I did managed to get the new y mount mounted and wow it seems like there is allot less tension on the screw. it must have been binding just a tiny bit...
  2. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

So I got less than nothing done this weekend it seems. Other hobbies pulled me away from the mill.
But i did receive the box of tooling I had ordered a couple weeks ago. So I got that unpacked...
  3. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

Quick explanation on the z axis lock. I ground down the one edge so that it cam be placed on the machine and removed at will. I will be using a hall sensor on the head to detect this "stop" to have a...
  4. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

Ok so what have I been up too.

Did a full teardown of the mini-mill. Then proceded to do some foam and resin work. The enclosure bed is now nice and waterproof. While apart I went ahead and took...
  5. Re: Benchtop CNC Advice: LMS X2 Mini Mill Conversion or Taig Deepcut

I may be way off base here. But in the grand scheme of things a cnc conversion is about as easy as it can get for someone hoping to get into machining and or mechanical design. It consists of some...
  6. Re: Benchtop CNC Advice: LMS X2 Mini Mill Conversion or Taig Deepcut

    Listen to these guys.

Table travels are almost as important as machine rigidity. And having I assume 0 programming experience could prove troublesome when working with the smaller limited capacity...

Re: 4" Vice for Seig X1?

I agree with the size and also ordered a 3". Mainly for the clearance (at max y position) between column ant the vise back. I still have not received my vise as it was lost in the mail. Is that a...
  9. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

I hope you all had a happy fathers day?

I didn't get much of anything done this weekend.

  10. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

Well I was able to get a good chunk of my main coolant set-up going this afternoon and tonight. I have only run it for a min or so cause I still have water proofing yet to do.

    mini mill coolant...
  11. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

Got started on the coolant system yesterday/last night. Freaking stupid little bits and pieces always break the budget it seems.
I also picked up the last bit to start on the HID lighting. Yes the...

Re: Build Thread - Sieg X2 CNC Conversion

Well, first off then, the proper fixed bearing mount rides on the larger diameter flat area. They come with a jam nut that that forces the bearing against the the screw so it is not allowed to slide...
  13. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

Please take notice of the lights mounted on the mill. Well you can't see the lights only the light. Really and truly one of my favorite mods to date. They are 12v led "driving" light strips.

    I...

Re: Build Thread - Sieg X2 CNC Conversion

I think I am not understanding something here. How are you planning on keeping the backlash down without using the threaded section of the ball screw? Is all the axial load going to be transferred to...
  15. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

This video has just a wee bit on the z axis mount. As it sits I drilled no holes, I only used supplied holes on the machine. I believe the top nut mount screw was m6x1 and the lower is m10x1.5....
  16. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

The table is just painted. I will be adding the tooling plate tonight or tomorrow. 1" aluminum at 5 inches wide. I dont know if it will be permanent or just for vice use. time will tell.
  17. Re: CNC setup confusion on X2 minimill, DM542A drivers, DB25-1205 BOB, & mach3

Re: G0704 Enclosures, Show em if you got em!

your local hardware store should also have tub and shower enclosure flat panels that are 4x8 and run about 35 bucks. they are a resin based product with a slight texture on one side. Easy to cut to...
  19. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

Thanks. I still have allot of work yet to do on it. The control box is running it but much of the control features have yet to be wired in or implemented yet. Due to lack of space in the boxes I...
  20. Re: CNC setup confusion on X2 minimill, DM542A drivers, DB25-1205 BOB, & mach3

I ended up removing all of the one side of the nut so it has the 2 flat edges and one lobe. I even went as far as removing much of the flats past the hole that holds in the "wiper" the actual...
  21. Re: Harbor freight X2 CNC built using 3d printed mounts. IT'S ALIVE

Well I got my vise ordered today along with some r-8 collets and collet holder set for er-16. I also got a quick change for the lathe ordered but that is for another thread I think.

Poll: Re: Budget SX2L CNC Conversion

well they seem to work for me on a x2 with 490 ozin steppers. Sooo YMMV I guess. but it would still be better than the all in one integrated board and not a ton more money. And easily replaced or...
  23. Re: Small buissness looking to get into in-house manufacturing needs help

Much more info is needed. Are you looking to do actual production or proto-typing?

Drawing the part in cad is many times the easy part, now program it for machining. Efficiently. And figure out...

I would agree with a couple points above. Use linux cnc and then get decent drivers. I don't know about geckos but look on amazon and there are decent ones for around 25 a piece and they usually...
