  1. Re: Harvey / Helical putting mills down for 8 days and counting

Is it possible to spiral in using a relieved endmill? About 0.125 per revolution. That's how I normally finish a bore. Leaves a nice finish.

For inexpensive rails and ball screws VXB Bearing is a good choice. OK quality https://www.vxb.com/

    Re: crane style cnc machine

An interesting idea. I'll be watching your build thread. :)

Since X is a rotary axis, I think it's going to require a translator program to use standard cartesian G code. I don't know of any...
  4. Re: New CNC of 2000x600x200mm High Precision

Define ''extremely high precision'' That is a subjective value. To me it means +/- 0.0005 mm or better, it might mean something else to you. Cost generally increases as a function of 1 + the cube...
  5. Re: Harvey / Helical putting mills down for 8 days and counting

Last time I needed something from Harvey Tool I had to buy through a local distributor, they would not sell direct. This was a couple years or so ago, maybe they have changed their sales policy by...
  6. Re: Recommend Motors and Drivers for CNC Router

Run them at the maximum that the drive is rated for. For instance, the em806 drive is rated at 80V, so I would use a 72 to 80 volt power supply. This would give you the best motor performance.

    Re: Are resisters needed?

Vince, you are confusing the motor power (48V) with the signal power. Your controller should output 5V step & direction signals, that is industry standard. The step & direction signals are not...

    Re: Backlash. Anyone try this?

Another method is to just eliminate the backlash in the system :)

    Re: Are resisters needed?

Assuming your controller outputs a standard 5 VDC signal for the step & direction, no resistor should be required.

    Re: CNC Router photo engraving

There is software that will convert various image formats to G-code, this is not really a conventional CAM function.. I have PixelCNC, it works and is cheap, but is a bit clunky. ...

    Re: Facing Burr Issue

So I assume that the cutoff is leaving a small bit of material on the cut off part, requiring a second operation to remove.

The normal way to fix this is to grind the tool tip at an angle so the...

    Re: Facing Burr Issue

You have said both ''facing'' and ''cutoff'' Which is it? It makes a difference and the solutions are different. Facing is normally done at the beginning of the operations and cutoff is normally...

Re: CNC milling for rotary engraving

The short answer is yes. The marketing guys have tried to blur the line between CNC routers and CNC milling machines. They are completely different machines, most of the CNC ''milling machines''...
  15. Re: Start to planning a Bridgeport Series II R2E4 Boss 8 retrofit?

Centroid Acorn controller and DMM Technology servos would be a great combination for that machine. Maybe 1KW servos for that size of a machine.

    Re: Looking for Advice

You say 3rd axis, is this a vertical Z axis? Maybe with a brake?

It also seems that the common component in all of your tests is the motor. You had it tested, but is it really OK? Maybe...

Yup, this sounds like a question for Tom. Assuming the signal is getting to the board, then it's a matter of whatever magic is happening beyond the connection point.

    Re: Lagun FTV3

Check the voltage from A+ to -5V or common as you turn the encoder very very slowly. The voltage should go from near 0 to about 5V as the encoder sends pulses. Then do the same with B+. And with...

Once the stress have been relieved in the sheet due to cutting it can bend. The grade of material really doesn't make any difference.
  25. Re: Coolant Pump for Bridgeport Interact 412

If the motor runs and is turning the impeller it's unlikely that there is anything wrong with the pump.

Normally the first thing I check is if the pump discharge is plugged. Putting a short piece...
