Re: SINUMERIK 840 D GHOST IMAGE RESTORE

My German isn't too hot, but I bet it's a driver issue related to slightly different hardware between the two machines.

    Re: CNC Mill tool essentials

I like 3 flute carbide for aluminum. I like 4 or 5 flute carbide for steel. For drilling, you will need a spot drill, then whatever drill you need. I generally just buy decent HSS drills. You can get...

    Poll: Re: Precision Milling machine

I think you are going to have a hard time consistently hitting .001" or what I would assume you mean to be +/-.0005" on any of those machines. I can get pretty close to that on my G0704, but it's...
  5. Re: Pumotix Beats Mach3 In Real Time 120000 IPM Achieved At 50 SPU!

Yeah, obviously he's handicapped Mach. I wouldn't recommend Mach to my worst enemy, but this is just dumb.

    Re: Torus Pro Tool Changer

All the core pieces appear pretty okay for a BT30 setup. Who knows what the quality is? Obviously there's still plenty to figure out. The fingers could easily be changed for something like TTS. It...

    Re: Torus Pro Tool Changer

The double motion kind of makes sense to me, in that context. My M6 macro (UCCNC) has a function to go to a lower Z height on tool insert as compared to placing the tool in the carousel. I've found...

    Re: Torus Pro Tool Changer

It looks to me like the white dowel on the arm somehow makes contacts the carousel grabber and releases the tool. The shank holding is a nice design for keeping the tool shanks nice and clean,...

    Re: Torus Pro Tool Changer

When you say holder locking mecahnism are you referring to the power drawbar? Or are you looking at how the tool holders sit in the carousel?

    Re: THE GRIZZ

This is quite possibly the nicest G0704 conversion ever. I wish my cash flow was better, I'd buy it in a heart beat. Then I'd put a tool changer on it and run nonstop.

Re: Thread milling with a little X2?

Amazon has decent insert type tooling that come with a variety of tools, threading included. For the $90 I paid, it was well worth it. You couldn't pay me to grind HSS given the cost insert tooling...

Re: Is Novakon still in business?

I email John yesterday and got a reply yesterday. It was only a few hours between my email and his response.

He says he has Gold tts holders in stock, which is what I am ordering.
  15. Re: Speeds, Feeds, and Strategies for Bench Top Mills

Hopefully you get a good run out of it. Even at inflated prices it will probably be worth it in the long run, especially since tooling prices aren't likely to go down any time soon.

    I've been...
  16. Re: Speeds, Feeds, and Strategies for Bench Top Mills

When I started with this project I would buy end mills by the pound on eBay. You could get like 5lbs of used carbide end mills for like $20. I still have a bunch of those end mills and occasionally...
  17. Re: Speeds, Feeds, and Strategies for Bench Top Mills

I bought the ATC as a kit from a guy here on the forum. I haven't seen him around for a while... I think he got annoyed with the talking heads.

I think the guy that made mine started with plans...
  18. Re: Anyone tried these cheap eBay 5-axis trunnions with harmonic drives?

It's listed for engraving, which to me would seem to imply thats it's probably not well suited to actual 5 axis machining. Even with 100:1 reduction, the steppers don't look particularly large.
  19. Re: Speeds, Feeds, and Strategies for Bench Top Mills

So, i've got about .0022" backlash on both X and Y. Hmmmm. That's about twice what I would like, but it's also not all that bad for a single nut.

I still don't know why I had dimension issues on...
  20. Re: Speeds, Feeds, and Strategies for Bench Top Mills

New ATC gripper is designed an on the mill. It should better accommodate the wide range of TTS style tool holders I have. They vary wildly in OD. The existing ATC grippers don't accommodate the...

    Re: Cleaning Tormach drill chucks

I like WD40 too. Brake clean or rubbing alcohol for TTS shafts works fine.
  22. Re: About 20 Months Later - Would I Buy Another One? - PCNC1100

Of the many criticisms of the Tormach that I have taken note of, the ATC has to be way down on the list. Bob got a lemon?

    Re: Makera Carvera milling machine.

Never get involved in a Kickstarter.

There simply isn't any reason to do it. You have everything to lose and nothing to gain. There are reputable machine builders selling good working machines, if...

    Re: PM1022 lathe CNC Conversion

Where did you source your ballscrews? I am leaning towards single nut eBay specials but I don't want to regret that choice.
  25. Re: Speeds, Feeds, and Strategies for Bench Top Mills

I've revised the ATC carousel design a bit. There was always a good bit of extra space on the carousel. Since the G0704 spindle is small, the space between the tools can be reduced. I figure I can...

    Re: PM1022 lathe CNC Conversion

Looks great! What control are you going with? Do you plan to stick with the stock spindle motor or go to something better?

Re: Hoss CNC X2 plans still available?

Hoss still pops up here from time to time. The last time I caught one of his posts he seemed to be doing really well, so just reach out to him. He will probably get back to you eventually.
  28. Re: Speeds, Feeds, and Strategies for Bench Top Mills

It took me three tries but I am happy with this. The first try I machined the M8 tapped holes 8mm (not my model, I should have checked it). So I couldn't tap the holes and had to try again. The...
  29. Re: Speeds, Feeds, and Strategies for Bench Top Mills

I've been machining all sorts of stuff, things are going really well. I am dialing in a lot of parts that I made in the past as a result of the tool changer. Since I am no longer worried about being...
