Y-axis parting from Sandvik will let you “reach” between the main and sub.
I use Royal qc65 collet noses so might not have to reach as far as you but I part with just enough space between m/s to fit...

I assume by system variables you mean

I find it easy to dial in a program just like any other part.. And then use G10 to move in...
No L is how many times to loop thru the subprogram. That would be used when using a bar puller/feeder and you want to loop intil you get to the end of the bar.
