Sounds like a horse chewing bottles. Not complaining, it is an old machine. Has anyone ever replaced the front spindle bearing in one of these machines or similar? Any pointers would be gratefully...

My lathe would not feed slow enough. That's why I put a motor on the carriage. I could use a slow rotational speed on the lathe, hence very low feed, and high speed on the drill in the opposite...
Many years ago, I converted a manual Harrison lathe to gun drilling. Worked quite well. 1000mm deep holes in inconel 600. What lathe are you starting with? I did not use slides, I mounted a motor...
How deep? What diameter? It's only the first drill that matters. All the others will follow this. If the hole is in the centre and right through, you could start with a 12 mm bar and turn the outside...
If you have a good and bad board on the desk in front of you, just take resistance measurements, with a good multimeter between one terminal or pin and all the other terminals or pins where it was...
Maybe worth checking that the water is totally isolated from the electrical mains. Try measuring the resistance between the water outlet fitting and the supply.
Just to wrap this up. Changed a sensor in the barfeed and it has been working fine for a week.
Thanks for all your time and help.
Thanks for your help guys.
I am 99.9% sure the fault is in the barfeed itself. If so apologies for posting in the FANUC forum.
Very frustrating,
Barfeed stopped feeding again after about 90 parts. No error message this time, probably because I removed /M98 P9999. Just stopped feeding. Machine carried on regardless....
Thanks for all your help guys.
When I push the emergency stop on the barfeeder, I do get an alarm on the CNC, whether the barfeed works or not.
Strangely, the machine worked normally this...
Thanks for the suggestion.
Parameter 10 seems to be 11110000
Thanks for all your replies. I am not sure I fully understand what you are suggesting.

Spoke too soon, made about 50 parts and the fault is back. What I have noticed is that normally, when the barfeed is on and I open the collet with the footswitch, the barfeed feeds automatically....
When this problem first presented itself, I spent some time resetting the connectors between the machine and the barfeed, checking air, oil etc. Rebooted the lathe and the barfeed many times. Problem...
Thanks for replies,
There is no program of that number in the machine, that I can see, from looking at the list on the FANUC screen under the programmes menu. I am pretty sure there never was....
Thanks for replies guys,
The barfeed is called by /M98 P9999, and this is what seems to generate the error message. I have no idea where this macro is or what it looks like. Is there any way I can...
Hello,
I have a Goodway GCL2L with a Sameca barfeed and Fanuc OT control. The machine was working fine up until yesterday with the exact same program. Nothing has changed. I am now getting 078 P/S...
Hello,
After much investigation I noticed that the 24 Volt DC supply to the contactors etc was floating about the 6 to 12 volt value. Transformer measures OK. Changed the smoothing capacitor,...
Thanks for replies guys.
The machine has been working OK without being moved for some years. When the Master Machine Alarm comes on none of the buttons on the machine panel work. Only the Fanuc...
Thanks for reply.
The year of manufacture was 1994. This is state of the art in this place. Some stuff was made in the century before that.
I do have full documentation for this machine, but...
Hello everyone,
I have a Goodway GCL Lathe with Fanuc OT control. When I try to turn the machine on I get the Master Machine Alarm Light and it will not run. For some reason the hydraulic pump does...
Thanks for all your replies guys.
I have tried a boxtool we have here but it is too big, I will have to beg or borrow a smaller one. I can not change up a size in bar as it is actually drawn iron...
Hello,
I need to turn 1/8" OD bar down to 3/32" for about 3/4" in Iron . These pins are for electrical connectors so they have to be perfect size and parallel.
I have tried machining on our cnc...
Thanks for the link to the ICL7106 but this chip takes much to much power. I need my circuit to last two years on two AA batteries. There is no sun where these devices are going so I dont want to use...
Thanks for all your replies guys,
I definately need a RTD for this project, for both the range and accuracy, about 500* Celsius.
The display driver chip I mentioned is a AY0438 ( my typo) which is...
Thanks for replies guys.
I have looked at the Pic Microchip website but it is like looking at a bucket of frogs.
I have designed dozens of circuits using RTD's Thermocouples etc, so I dont have a...
Hello world,
I am an electronic engineer but when I was in university there were only six computers on the entire campus. It wasn't a bad university it was just a long time ago.
Now I must make...
Eureka.
Bought a service exchange axis card for £535.00 and fitted it yesterday. Had to cancel+p but after that machine seems to work fine. The x axis seems about 1mm out but this may be because I...
Thanks for replies guys,
Following the very good suggestions from the previous post I have checked the parameters, they all seem correct and are the same for both motors. I have previously swapped...
Hello
I have the same alarm but with a Fanuc OT on a different axis, see my thread "424 alarm". Are you sure the whining is not coming from the motor? Mine is, even though the motor checks out OK....
