Re: DIY CNC machine on the cheap!

Aside from the serious trouble you'll have with the machine flexing in every direction in use, relying on a dust enclosure will simply clog up every single part of the machine that moves with dust,...

    Re: Nema 23 motor comparison

I wouldn't be overly concerned about the stepper choices to select from, so long as you aim for as low an inductance as possible, and around 270-300oz/in at a minimum, anything in that range or a bit...

Sticky: Re: Share Your Files Part or Art

Inkscape lets you do this reasonably easy once you're a bit familiar with the program, and play around with the "Path" and "Object to Path" options. I tried to open the file but was unable to.

    I'd...
  6. Re: 'Reference Face' for a steel CNC Router build

Personally I'm not a fan of the CNC Sharks as they are the most over priced and over hyped machines around, but this one seems to be around 1/5 of the normal cost which at least makes it more...
  7. Re: 'Reference Face' for a steel CNC Router build

Depends how serious you are and what tools you have available Steve.

Without a mill you'd need to pay someone to machine the RHS flat on preferably all 4 sides, and you'd need to be sure they...

Given the variance of VFD's used for these machines, it would be an idea to post the model of the VFD with your machine.

  9. Re: Help for the future, can I return to a better place.

Here in OZ that's most definitely not the standard!

Now that we have gov subsidised slave labour with the "Internship Program" the situations only gotten much, much worse.

    Most employers are...

    Re: NcStudio steppers not responding

Hi Bivegele, I never got around to rewiring the machine as it has been amazingly reliable.

The issues I had with the machine starting up in a funny state I now suspect were possibly due to mains...
  11. Re: CNC Router Parts / Avid CNC Benchtop PRO 2424 Machine Kit + Sensors - $1800

I see not much has changed on the zone since I last bothered to log on!

Awesome looking machine, nice design and decent price too, I reckon the buyer will be very happy.

    Re: 1.5kW motor on a 3040?

With that 2.2kw spindle machine, take note he's changed all the electronics, and the steppers have been replaced with much more powerful ones!

    There's no way the electronics/mechanics on a...

    Re: 1.5kW motor on a 3040?

I wouldn't worry too much, you've still got a cheap entry level ticket into the cnc world.

Either it will do what you want reasonably well within it's limits, or it will just be the first of many...

    Re: Chinese 3040T CNC upgrades.

I'm a bit dubious whether a 3040 is worth tarting up at all unless you can get the parts for practically nothing?

It seems a lot of cost and effort for very little return, as the 3040's inherently...

    Re: 1.5kW motor on a 3040?

I've got a 3040 and a 6040, the 6040 is terrific value and quite a robust and well made machine generally, the only real downside is the garbage "blue box" controller they come standard with. Replace...

Poll: Re: what do you think of chinese cnc machine?

I'm finding the Chinese increasingly better to deal with over time. And the fact they don't embrace the "charge as much as possible" attitude that is pretty typical among local sellers is just great,...

Re: A Fixed Gantry Cast Iron/Steel Build

I'm far from any expert but based on my experiences with mills and cnc machines, machining ferrous materials is very different to the run of the mill materials machined on most hobbiest machines.

  26. Re: Mechanical quality / accuracy of Chinese routers?

  27. Re: Mechanical quality / accuracy of Chinese routers?

Re: Choosing the stepper motor torque...

This is a much closer match:

    Nema 23 Stepper Motor, 3.5A 300oz in. 2.4mh Inductance (1/4in Double Shaft)

Although around 2.3mH is going to be about the best achievable. As I stated before,...

Re: Choosing the stepper motor torque...

You can get more optimal, bringing you closer to the max possible match, but those steppers are really good and will be more than capable of pushing a few hundred kilo's around!
