Re: Where is Pokeys57CNC Pin 55 - and almost there!

    Thanks all.

Thanks. This is the dialog that I could not find. Do I use this dialog for settings or the one mentioned below? They both seem have just some of the same settings for limits and...
  2. Re: Loosing Steps or wrong configuration for engraving?

You might have a backlash issue.

On the T and E image, the lower left corner E has a dangler, so it doesn't look like it returned to the same starting point, if that is where it started.

    At...

Re: Where is Pokeys57CNC Pin 55 - and almost there!

    I did find this

    https://blog.poscope.com/pokeys57cnc-pinout-explained/

I'm still not seeing the physical location of Pokey's pins.

Somewhere along the way I got an inkling that one of...

Where is Pokeys57CNC Pin 55 - and almost there!

I bought PoKeys57CNC for my BOSS3 and Mach3 setup, and the basic configuration below was complete on a backup PC with nothing connected to the board. Motor and limit switches check OK (using o-scope...

Re: Parallel Port MPG or PokeysCNC57

More money is always the answer, if all the time in the world does not do it. I suspect something in a Mach file got changed. There was some kind of error dialog when I closed Mach asking to try and...

Re: Parallel Port MPG or PokeysCNC57

I gave up on the parallel port MPG and ordered a Pokeys57CNC. It was only frustrating because it worked a couple of times and then just stopped.

Re: Parallel Port MPG or PokeysCNC57

Hi, can anyone comment on why parallel port pins 2-9 indicators in the diagnostics screen are stuck high when the port is set to use them as inputs and I draw them to ground through a resistor? This...

    Parallel Port MPG or PokeysCNC57

I briefly got my MPG to work with MACH3. It interfaces through an older C22 BoB and PCI-Parallel Port card, all mounted inside the PC and uses the PC 5V supply. (one puzzle is that the series...

    CGM Files

Does anyone know of any software that can convert raster and vector images (tiff, png, ai, eps, svg, etc. file types) to CGM file format? I've tried all of the online converters and trial version...
  10. Re: Patents, trade marks, designs and other inellectual property matters

    Open patent might address that.
  11. Re: My homemade CNC router cant cut holes as it should? Anyone know what can be wrong

I assumed they were aluminum, and even then I was a bit suspicious of the rigidity.
  12. Re: Patents, trade marks, designs and other inellectual property matters

Dave, I appreciate the feedback and your position. I'm sure you are wanting to help specific situations. I will unfortunately just be able to provide general commentary.

    Jim, that's the truth....

    Re: imperfect circles

I was going to suggest that looks like classic backlash issue. You have rounded squares that are consistent in the X and Y axis. Mach has a backlash compensation in the drop-down menus, but best to...

Re: Sign too large to CNC machine

I can't help with details, but yes that is how you'd do it. I would design in some alignment pins to make the move more accurate.
  16. Re: My homemade CNC router cant cut holes as it should? Anyone know what can be wrong

I would usually look at backlash if you are not getting round holes. The jaggies not sure, maybe lots of backlash and some sticktion. How rigid is the gantry? How much can you bend it if you have a...
  17. Re: What does the DRO read out in Mach normally, mm or inches?

I always just measured my movement and then calculated from that. For example, if I set 2000 steps/mm and I programmed in 100 mm movement, and I only measure 92.03 mm movement, then I need to adjust...

Re: NEW FREE MACH 3 proffessional screenset

I think the trend in UI development is to move away from text labeling so translation is not necessary. But a good idea is to make language lookup tables so users have the option of customizing their...

    Upgrade from BOSS 3

Would Tormach be considered an updgrade of a reasonably running BOSS 3 using Mach3 or LinuxCNC, as far as work capability.

I think the 770 can hold more weight, has shorter travels, and is about...
  20. Re: Is it bad for chucks and collets to hold drills and endmills on the flutes?

I will choke up, but am still clamping on an appreciable length of the shank. Some end mills are double end so the flutes are going to up in the collet anyway. I still try to get the bulk of the...

    Re: Dry milling of aluminum

Use denatured alcohol or IPA as a cutting fluid. It will help keep the end mill cool and lubricate enough to mitigate chip welding. Then it should quickly evaporate and leave no residue.

Re: CNC Bridgeport series 1 boss convert to mach 3

I kept the original motors - forgot which ones. I've used both Mach3 and LinuxCNC. Still playing with the software part.
  23. Re: Mach3 Coordinate systems; setting X0/Y0; Z-height; re-running jobs; etc.

Mach will read the code when you load the file. If there is an error, Mach will tell you that and which line. When the code is read on loading, that is when G21 was read and switched to metric.

    I...

Re: Holding thin wall cylinders for milling

I'd vote 3-jaw with soft pie jaws. You'll be fine once you get more support around the circumference.

    Re: MORE PROBLEMS!!! Grrrrrrr....

Do you run the machine a lot? 3 years sounds like a long run before needing some attention, like to the gibbs as you described. Hopefully it is just a tight gibb.

    Scorch Works on Windows 10

  30. Re: F-Engrave 1.58 - Question on tool path and lifting

OK, I tried using v1.62 and am seeing the same things. I get more tool lifting on a path when I set shorter sub-step lengths. I tried increasing number of pixels (1k to 2k square). I tried a simpler...
