Re: Vetric Aspire nose dive on Z Axis

It’s not easy, but out of 140 we may get 5 to go on to college or trade school.
Just one is a win; five is excellent.

Could you get any of the 'graduates' to come back for an hour to talk to the...

Re: Any pics of cnc control cabinets?

I use star grounding for all DC electronics, then I tie that star ground point to the the incoming mains ground. I do not gain or lose axis Step pulses.

I suspect that workplace safety laws will...

Re: Any pics of cnc control cabinets?

STAR grounding: everything to a single solid ground point.
Essential to prevent 'ground loops', which can be really disruptive.

  4. Re: Router Way Covers Not Allowing Full Rage of Motion

Perhaps the closed bottom on the bellows was not such a good idea after all? It traps stuff you would prefer have fall out.

I made up some covers for my machine out of stiff plastic. Concertina...
  5. Re: Router Way Covers Not Allowing Full Rage of Motion

    Chuckle.
It is only when you try to explain the problem to someone else (who may even understand nothing of what you are saying) that the solution becomes obvious. Happens all the time.

    Cheers...

Re: how to take adapter off

Looks to me as though you need a C-Spanner. There should have been a suitable one with the machine.
Failing that, a large adjustable plumbers pipe wrench could be used on the knurled bit. Unscrew...

Re: What do you call these black knobs?

Understood, but will the connection between the insert and the plastic take high forces? I wonder.
Sometimes the diameter of the knob reflects the strength of the unit.

  8. Re: Milling steel on a small mill - speeds, feed, doc, step over?

An O-ring drive? I would start by replacing that with a 6 mm GT2 belt!

    Re: Lexan Window Thickness

Lexan, NOT glass and NOT perspex.
1/8" or 3/16" would be fine. It's a window, not a crash barrier.

    Re: Monitor old equipment

I find LabJack gear excellent (T7-Pro). It can hook up via ethernet. Many channels.

Re: Vetric Aspire nose dive on Z Axis

Try running at half the feed rate. If that solves the problem, you know how to tackle it.

Re: Are Metal Shavings / Dust Hazardous?

Metal is not a hazard (with obvious exceptions such as cadmium etc).

But those coolant oils are a KNOWN hazard. They cause dermatitis with skin contact; I would imagine the vapours are also a...
  13. Re: Mach3 no longer works in Windows 10 as of version 1803

One of these days I will try that with Knoppix. I have the distro.

I was running my machine in production mode until it died - using WXP. I had to 'upgrade' to W7. The vendor was sstill not keen...

Re: What do you call these black knobs?

    so I made some
    Totally approve.
And I bet they were cheaper than McMaster-Carr!

Mind you, one can buy FOUR of them, with M6 thread, from eBay (from China) for about $1.60 total.

Yes, do a 'scratch' test with a tiny cut.

  16. Re: Mach3 no longer works in Windows 10 as of version 1803

I run the Windows version of Freecad under Wine
Have you tried running AutoSketch v10 under WINE? That would be nice.

Mind you, W7 & Mach3 with NO internet connection works fine on a production...
  17. Re: Mach3 Function wizards Lathe threading REV 1.17 Problem . Help me please.

    OK, known problem.
When the tool hits the metal, the spindle is slowing down because of the load. On a geared lathe this does not matter, but on a small CNC lathe without gears and the spindle...

    What metal are you cutting?

    Re: Rapidly dulling end mills?

You could phrase that as too much rubbing in the dust!

You can solve a lot of that with a continuous air blast aimed at the cutter. It will cool the cutter and clear out the swarf. Then you could...

    Re: Rapidly dulling end mills?

Not sure about the underperforming stepper idea. Usually, when a stepper starts to lose steps or get pushed around, the whole axis stutters to a stop.

You can test this. Halve the axis speed and...

    Re: Rapidly dulling end mills?

The mill starts to veer off course if cut depth is 0.08 inch or higher.
Very sad. What this means is that the spindle is too flexible, or too weak, to be able to make any serious cuts.
    There is...

    Re: 4th axis on Z setup ??

A axis is along the X axis, B axis is along the Y axis, and the rarely used C axis is along the Z axis.

    Re: Rapidly dulling end mills?

Sounds as though the cutter is doing more rubbing than cutting. The friction will cause heating and then abrasion of the cutter edge.
Sometimes you find that the machine you have is not meant for...

    Re: multiple start thread mach3

Interesting. Imho, that code should work.
I assume that you are working in metric (yes, g21) and cutting soft aluminium?

Have you tried starting several turns out to let the system synchronise?...
