Re: Mori SL1 Retrofit - The Build

No, I've been using mach for ages so I'm familiar with it.

Re: Mori SL1 Retrofit - The Build

I would, but I'm super busy building out my new space. If I remember I can in a few months.
  3. Re: Setting Lathe Tool Position - Not Cutting in the center - Help.

Very old post, but I appreciate the response. Turns out I didn't examine the tools holders, they have adjustments on the back to set cutter height. Easy peezy.
  4. Re: Noob Looking for General Info on Stamping Press Machinery

Thanks a bunch. Great information. I'll have this a ponder and let you know.
  5. Re: Noob Looking for General Info on Stamping Press Machinery

    Awesome. Thanks for the info.

So when you say area for calculating the tonnage, do you mean the surface area of the part, or just the surface area of the edges to be cut out? Cause I can calculate...
  6. Noob Looking for General Info on Stamping Press Machinery

I'm a machinist and metal fabricator, but I'm not at all familiar with metal stamping or punching. I want to punch/press (whatever the correct terminology is) quite a lot of spoon shaped items. I...
  7. Re: What CAD/CAM for CNC Lathe, Tried Fusion and RhinoCAM No JOY

@Avongil, what CAD are you using that you find intuitive? I wouldn't say Rhino is intuitive, but once you know how it operates I think it's very easy to use.
  8. Re: Which Fadal? 4020 1992 with 4th Axis or 4020 1998?

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.
  9. Re: What CAD/CAM for CNC Lathe, Tried Fusion and RhinoCAM No JOY

    Thanks. I'll try that.
  10. Re: What CAD/CAM for CNC Lathe, Tried Fusion and RhinoCAM No JOY

I appreciate the help and i've watched that video numerous times. And that's the only way to bore with an indexable tool. Once I setup my tooling I realized I couldn't use the bore function with...
  11. What CAD/CAM for CNC Lathe, Tried Fusion and RhinoCAM No JOY

I'm sure this get asked a lot so...

I currently use Rhino and RhinoCAM for Mill work, v4 Rhino and v1 RhinoCAM.

A friend's shop let me use RhinoCAM 2 and Rhino 5 to see if I like it for lathe...
  12. Re: Which Fadal? 4020 1992 with 4th Axis or 4020 1998?

    Ok good to know thanks.
  13. Which Fadal? 4020 1992 with 4th Axis or 4020 1998?

I'm looking at two Fadals they both look like they're in great shape. Haven't seen them in person, but assuming they are both solid which one would you rather have?

    One is a 1992 4020 with 4th...
  14. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

    It was peck drilling.
  15. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

LOL that would be nice, but during that the drill broke, so I'd like to not repeat that. I'll figure out some way. Thanks.
  16. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

So i ran the Auto tune and everything seems to work fine. No way to test the torque though.
  17. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

240VAC, wired it according to the wiring name plate for low voltage, which is 230VAC.
  18. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

Ok the motor tuning section was at the front of the manual not at the section where it tells you what the parameters are. I have to unhook the load and do it.
  19. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

Ok so I turned on the Sensorless Vector and then turned on the spindle and it only goes 140 RPM when I set it to 1200 or 3000. So manual says when setting SV to retune the motor. So I went into motor...
  20. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

LOL missed that. Those are pricey.
  21. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

Cool Thanks for the suggestion. I would want a 7 1/2 or 10 HP motor though.
  22. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

    Here you go.https://www.dropbox.com/s/4qs40zf1yo3wb5k/motor.JPG?dl=0
  23. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

    ok thanks
  24. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

Yes it has sensorless vector. I'll try that. Do you think it's worth getting a new motor or will that function help solve the problem?
  25. Re: VFD Setting Help not much torque at low speeds.

My lathe is a professional lathe that I changed to modern electronics. It uses a little more horsepower than the original machine. The motor's RPMs are 3600 and with the pulley arrangement stock on...
