Re: Hoss G0704 CNC plans still available

Glad to see your still around and kicking..
  2. Re: G0704 Power draw bar from midwest machine works

That is a terrible design. The draw bar should be squeezing the stack of washers without applying any pressure to the spindle. It's just jamming the drawbar down against the bearings, probably...

    Re: Universal ATC Kit

I plan on building one for my G0704 at some point. Similar to what you've done.. except I would have used a slightly different air piston.

LinuxCNC can do this for you.

Re: PM-25MV quick tool change mod

I'm not sure what the difference would be. 1272 lbs of force no mater if it's air, hydraulic, or hand. It's still going to be hard on the spindle bearings and could muck up the pre-load.

Are you using a lift plate or compressing against the spindle?

Re: Mach4 Operating System Catch 22

You will not have issues with that. The ISO is 32 bit and will run on a 64 bit machine no problem. All mine are 64 bit. You might have jitter issues. Some machines don't do real time very good. This...

Re: Mach4 Operating System Catch 22

You would want to install it from a official LinuxCNC ISO because it has to be a Real Time Kernel.. but.. yea.. no need to pay MS for the operating system, or pay for the control software either..

Re: G0704 CNC Conversion - Ball Screw "wobble"

It's not a precision ground ball screw.. it's a C7 ROLLED ball screw.. HUGE difference.

  16. Re: Ironhorse Motors - Opinions? (G0704 Motor Upgrade)

Interesting, says it's only rated @ 1800RPM. What pulley arrangement are you using and what's the max RPM you can get with your spindle ?

Re: My new G0704 mill - give me your must do mods!

If you plan on using ball screws, handles won't work. The Z will most likely slide down, and you would have to lock the gibs for drilling, and for manual milling, the screws could back off.. Get...

Re: using the er20 quick change holders.

The whole point of TTS is repeatability and quck change. By index off the face of the spindle (not a collet) you achieve this. Index off a collet face may not reproduce the same results, it might...

    Re: my 1handed o704 build

I personally thing that the 1200oz stepper on the Z is WAY WAY WAY WAY overkill. 570oz works just fine. the 1200 will be slower and you will gain nothing by using it. Please read the other threads...

    Re: CNC Project !! AMA25LV (G0704) Mill !!!!!!!

I wouldn't bother with drilling the hole. Chances are your going to remove the control box and use cable chain.. in which case, the wire will route differently.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

I used PVC for sign making for the back side of my enclosure. I got my stuff from a local Plastics company that mostly deals with selling to Sign Making shops. Works great.
