I running the knee as Z axes at 25 ipm
I'm just east of Ottawa and when I bought mine they were both original with the large head and all air and hydraulic still attached plus this was two complete machine. They were orange/red in color.

No the knee was not design that way my thoughts were to do it this way instead of the quill I wanted to keep it separated which gives me both option plus driving the knee gives me around 12" on Z and...

May I ask if your going to power the Z as the knee of the mill if not and your intend is to manualy lift the knee with the ballscrew then you will have to lock it everytime you move as it will drift
