You can program from either top or bottom as long as you call the right taper in the taper settings.

Solidworks is a great piece of 64 bit software with great support. Why would you want to infect it with a 32 bit piece of crap like Mastercam. Run away.

I use wire V9 with some really large files for wire. Say 100 4axis parts in a plate and it only takes seconds to save even over a network.
