    K40 power drop off

My K40 seems to be losing power. It's struggling to cut 2mm acrylic cleanly at 15mA, 10mm/s speed.

In the past I am sure it would cut at 10mA, 20mm/s.

Its a few years old, but doesn't get used...
  2. Before I do this the hard way.... 3d printing parts from an assembly.

    Complete fusion 360 newbie here...

I have a single fusion 360 assembly drawing, with many constituent parts (bodies).

What is the easiest way to get all the parts layed out into an stl file for...
  3. Re: Loss of absolute position. Add encoders? Re-homing?

    Hi Craig,

The vid I was looking at was last year by Physics Annonymous, he's gone on to make a new UI for Mach 3... Not that that help fix any bugs or glitches!

    Does LinuxCNC have many...
  4. Re: Loss of absolute position. Add encoders? Re-homing?

Hmmm ok. Just watched youtube video called 'Mach 4 Sucks'!

Maybe the UCCNC is worth looking at?
  5. Re: Loss of absolute position. Add encoders? Re-homing?

    Thanks Craig.

My machine has magnetic limit switches at both ends of X and Y and a single one on Z. So doing a Ref All at the start is obviously a good idea.

On my setup, Mach 3 does seem to...
  6. Re: Loss of absolute position. Add encoders? Re-homing?

Ah OK, I had assumed Mach 3 could check absolute position... No plug in to do that either...

As an option, is it possible to to add a home reposition check into a CNC program?

    It's early days...
  7. Loss of absolute position. Add encoders? Re-homing?

I have a DIY gantry machine and I have a stack of resolver position sensors (contactless rotary encoder 4096 steps per rev).

After an incedent where my machine somehow lost it's position,...

Not sure if its a clone or not. It came with the machine...

I can try a re-install of the plugin and see what happens...

Re: Mach 3 Jog stepping stops working.

I think this is an issue with the UC100, once it locks up, it wont move with any keyboard or onscreen MPG. In step or continuous modes.

Mach 3 Jog stepping stops working.

No sure the best place to post this, but I have a custom made gantry mill running off Mach 3. When I set the on screen MPG to step mode, the mill sometimes just stops moving.

    It appears to work...

Re: Setting up Z axis in Mach3

    Thanks guys.

I have it sussed now. The M6 tool change macro was confusing things. I didn't write it (it's a previously owned machine and laptop) and I don't really know what it's doing, so once I...

    Electronic Edge finder

Are the electronic edge finders with a small ball bearing on the end any good?

I'm talking about the 'cheap' ones on Amazon! Not a Renishaw. About £25.
  14. Is it normal to have all limit switches wired to same input?

I have a new (to me) gantry type cnc router which was custom built. It has magnetic limit switches on all axis but I found that they are all wired together to pin 10 on the controller.

    Is that...

Setting up Z axis in Mach3

I have a gantry type router (custom made) and I want to set up th Z axis.

I think it has lost the correct Z position as Z zero is about 80mm away from the Z up limit switch.

    Whats the correct...
  16. Re: Which CAD/CAM software for basic 2D to G-code for hole drilling on CNC running MA

    Thanks, I'll look into that.

I wondered if there was a simple WYSIWYG front end to MACH3 where you can drop and drag holes, slots, circles etc and the CNC will cut them?
  17. Re: Which CAD/CAM software for basic 2D to G-code for hole drilling on CNC running MA

Yes, I just downloaded it last night! Seems to do just about everything including having Path Workbench to do the post processing.

Little bit of a learning curve, but I guess it's good to...
  18. Which CAD/CAM software for basic 2D to G-code for hole drilling on CNC running MACH3

I usually draw stuff in Sketchup8. I started to learn Fusion360 until it went web-only and subscription.

I have a gantry type CNC mill, with MACH3.

I want to do some repetitive hole drilling,...
  19. Re: 9060 80-90W chinese machine quest!

Thanks. Will check them out too.

I found another 'real' manufacturer, Liaocheng Hongqiang Electronic Equipment Co., Ltd. They appear to have a UK agent too. A massive range of laser machines...

Thanks for the info. Will check them all out.
  21. 9060 80-90W chinese machine quest!

    Hi All,

Just begun looking into laser engraver/cutters after playing with a 'toy' machine for a bit - managed to cut stencils with it, so it did it's job.

    A 600x900mm size 80-90W machine seems...
  22. Re: 4 flute carbide end mill wear. best feed and speeds?

    Thanks guys.

I am setting up for flood cooling at the moment.
  23. Re: 4 flute carbide end mill wear. best feed and speeds?

Thanks again Craig, yes I mis-read confused surface speed with feed!

    I have a demo of G-Wizard and it's showing me a surface speed of 274m/min, rpm 6400rpm.

If the 'finish' slider is on finest,...
  24. Re: 4 flute carbide end mill wear. best feed and speeds?

    Hey thanks Craig.

Does my feed speed of around 500mm/min sound right?

The video is interesting, I'd always thought that the very front edge of the tool is there to initiate splitting the chip...
  25. Re: 4 flute carbide end mill wear. best feed and speeds?

    Hey thanks Craig.

I'm guessing that your quoted speed is mm/min and not m/min!

The video is interesting, I'd always thought that the very front edge of the tool is there to initiate splitting...
  26. Re: 4 flute carbide end mill wear. best feed and speeds?

    Thanks Jim.

I will try some WD40 or a small amount of suds oil/water mix.

The finish was great for quite a while but suddenly changed. (pics in worng order, so inital finish is on the right!)
  27. 4 flute carbide end mill wear. best feed and speeds?

    Re: Z axis idea

    Very interesting! Thanks.

That design looks like it only has one rail on each side for the Z axis.

I think I would have joined the uprights together across the top of the gantry to make it...
