The spi update is to set the 50% idle current when the motor sits or more than a second. But repeated sending serial with no error correction could eventualy lead to an error in a noisy environment....

Yes, i designed a complete L6474 muti axis system for my small routers, but find they run extremely hot. Without a heat sink ( at 1.5a/phase ) they will reach 120C in less than 60 seconds then trip...

Did you run the pulse test program in the mach 3 to see how steady the pulse stream is ?

Sometimes i'm slow, but its mostly because i now build on demand. There isn't enough money anymore to buy parts in bulk.
But i just got an other big batch of PCB's made in Quebec ......

If its only holding in one direction , its a mosfet or a mosfet driver.
Just send it back and i will repair it for $25-35. Thats not a current sensing resistor. Thats the incoming voltage...
