    Re: Thor

    Hi,

Still going fine thanks. Its currently in storage however as we have moved and are in the process of building a new workshop.

In terms of cement, I used 52.5R Snowcrete cement (UK) which is...
  3. Re: EMCOTURN 242 Duplomatic tool changer (disc) revolution operation question

I believe this is normal now that I have messed around with my own turret, I dont think our model reverses. The newer ones I believe do.
  4. Re: EMCOTURN 242 Duplomatic tool changer (disc) revolution operation question

Very old thread, I have the same question about a turret I have (Duplomatic 160-8/20), did you ever solve this?

    Acorn Centroid ATC Macro

Not able to work out how to do a tool change macro. Ive got the Mach 3 code. How do I translate this into something that Acorn Centroid can work with.

    My assumptions.

    Edit cnctch.mac, I found...

Re: Gantry mill for precise milling of aluminium

Certainly one of the most awesome builds Ive seen. Quick question, I have the same HSD spindle (or very similar) to mine, do you run it from 3 Phase naturally or do you use some form of 220V to 380V...

That was courtesy of my previous machine (Denford Triac).

Looking forward to getting the HSD 6.8KW 24K RPM spindle working 100%, hopefully this weekend I can do some test cuts. Ive only got a few...

So Thor has had a bit of an upgrade / make over.

    Spot the difference.

Thanks. For me, it looks like a viable option. I'm not a mechanical engineer however I'm aware that some very large machines are built using similar technologies. Lafarge and other make their own...

Re: Gantry mill for precise milling of aluminium

Nice, im currently running 2000mm/m^2 acceleration, should be able to go higher with better gearing on Thor.

Very interested in this NT30 spindle too. This is the closest thing I could find, any...

    Re: Thor

I did look at this. I couldnt find anything I was willing to part money for. The cheapest I could find was around $1500 upwards to around $4K. Servo power, I am limited to around 1.5KW (using...

    Re: Thor

A design constraint that you may not be aware of, is that this mill can only be powered by single phase, 32A max. This is the most powerful ****ty spindle (4KW) that fits that requirement.

    Of...

Ill upgrade the spindle once a)this one dies, b)cannot do what is needed, c)I have the funds available.

    Success!

Apart from some places that remained a bit unmixed, the rest has gone hard and is mirror smooth.

Removed the reference frame, alu still 'stuck' to the epoxy.

Mounted the tooling alu, a quick sweep tells me it looks to be accurate to within 0.05mm. Not ideal but not bad for a garage job.

Re: Large Epoxy Granite Vertical CNC Mill

Suppose it could be done but I dont see the value of taking the risk.

As it is, good machines struggle to do 'perfect' circles. This will add another dimension of issues and tuning. I think its...

Re: Large Epoxy Granite Vertical CNC Mill

No, you can make up for some elements such as play in axial (along the ballscrew) with software but if the machine is not square, you will always have issues.

Ive cast the gantry, waiting for it to fully cure so I can move it. Hoping to get some momentum back into the machine building asap.

The problem with the Chinese stuff (lets assume quality is good) is shipment cost (to the UK) as well as import cost. I did look at it. I paid £200 for a decent granite block 600mm x 600mm. This goes...

    Re: Thor

I believe the gravity / flow method does not work. As we know there is a 'layer' which will always not be 100% flat. If you fill a glass, you see it on the edges. You can cut the edges off.
