Thanks to all for the replies. I'm looking into the areas described in your posts.
I have an automation project that I am work on with a client. In a nutshell, I need to write a completely new custom interface (and underlying code to control the parallel port) that will control a...
Thanks for your response!
Long story short, I'm looking for advice, links, books, or other info on using a toolpost grinder.
I've used a lathe for many years, but have recently acquired a used Themac J40 Toolpost Grinder....
Hi, I'm looking for a Themac J40 Toolpost Grinder Manual. I emailed Themac and they don't have an electronic version to download, but they offered to fax me a copy.... well.... I don't have a fax...
Thanks for the replies. I'll check out the potential issues mentioned in the above replies.
You guys are awesome! The willingness of fellow machinists to help each other out never ceases to amaze...
I've been using a 3-jaw chuck to hold some hardened steel bars. The problem is that the lathe I'm using DOES have the horsepower to take fairly large cut depths, however, the force of the bit...
Thanks to all for the help. I think I found what I need at Lee Spring.
To txcncman:
Thanks for the tips on spring winding. The prices at Lee Spring are rather high for small quantities so I may...
Hello. I am looking for some compression springs to fit a particular application. I've looked at the usual suppliers such as Enco, MSC, McMaster-Carr, Graingers, etc.... So it'd probably have to be a...
I have no idea the best section to post this, but General CAD seemed best I guess:
I was looking at the following article (see below) and was reading about some folks using the Microsoft Kinect...
Awesome! This might just be what I was looking for. The most time consuming part is the drilling so this might just work. The alloy and hardness seems acceptable so I'll just have to give it a try....
Thanks to all for the help. I'll have to digest the info, but there are some good leads here.
I decided to post this here because it's something that apparently isn't designed and manufactured for some reason.
Okay, long story short, I make a product that requires round spacers that are...
The rotor inertia for the Automation Direct motors is specified in their specifications PDF. See link below:

I hope that I do not violate any CNCZone rules regarding advertising since I am affiliated with CJA Masterworks, so Mods, if this post is not acceptable, please let me know and I'll remove this post,...
It depends, of course, on which exact motor you choose, but I'm 99% sure that you could run 3 or 4 motors in the neighborhood of 1000 oz-in on a 50VDC @ 20A power supply.
I run 1600 oz-in NEMA 42...
Forgot to mention, if you need some help in determining the size motor to use, especially with different gear reductions, there is a free program called VisualSizer that can give you a good estimate...
In theory you could drive ANYTHING with ANY size motor, you just need to use some gear reduction. Granted it wouldn't be ideal, but as you mentioned the alternative might cost you $1000 for a motor....
Actually thanks for mentioning the .set files. I copied the 1024.set file from the old computer to the new computer. This seems to have resolved the issue.
I downloaded a new copy of Mach3 from...
Yeah, I'm using whatever got installed with the normal installation of Mach3.
I replaced an older controller computer running Mach3 with a newer computer running the same version of Mach3. I copied over my profiles (.xml files) and moved my license file.
I thought...
Although my experience with Novakon has been mediocre, I have to say that once the bugs were worked out of the NM-200 I purchased, it has worked extremely well.
I purchased my machine back in...
Have you looked at the Tormach systems?
Thanks to Andre' B and Packrat too. I'll be sure to check out the links.
You've got a good point, but I wanted to try making a gear for a practical situation. My lathe is running right now, I have a metal change gear that is identical to the plastic one. It's not as safe...
I need to cut a new gear for my Enco 12x36 lathe. Enco wants $50 for a new gear, but I'd like to try and make one myself. Since I've never cut gears before it would be a good learning experience.

Thanks for the input guys!
Are R8 end mill toolholders considered repeatable? I've never tested this before since I minimize tool changes on my CNC mill, and always recheck the zero point, but I was wondering about the...
I wasn't sure I wanted to mention the specific application before, and I still don't want to give away too about the exact application because it needs to stay under wraps for now, but I'll divulge a...
Al the Man: I think you are right about being proportional controls. I'd have to calibrate the sensor and correlate a given voltage to an angular position in degrees.
TPS (Throttle Position...
