Hi All,
I'm building a 5 axis grinder. 3 axes done, two to go. The work is max 1.5mm dia (think gem cutting) so forces involved are thankfully very low.
Thinking about how to control it...

Your google must be better than mine.
If I google "Stepmaster" I get pages & pages of exercise equipment.
If I google "Stepmaster 4 axis cnc" I get pages & pages of exercise equipment + ...
Sorry, can you be more specific? Where exactly?
The www.stepmasternc.com website is (AFAIK) gone.
The error I get when visiting that URL is "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN".
Hi All,
I found this board that I bought maybe 10 years ago & I want to try it.
It was working when I got it but I dismantled it ages ago.
The company appears closed & their site is down....
OK... so... I was able to order a set of four for £25.

Only took me 9 years !
Its the frame size.
It has no bearing on spindle speed, voltage or power.
AFAIK...
The stuff I've got is industrial glue for plastic (I think). Its very hard as it comes.
Having said that, its glue. So when it gets hot it gets tacky.
Worth a small batch just to see.
I...
I was offered a German (Swiss?) machine made by Isdel some time ago with super high resolution for £1200.
I'm not sure if they still make cnc routers but it was really small stuff. I think the...
Sounds pricey.
I've got a 20kg box of hot melt glue. I might give that a go.
I have as it was easier to source than LDPE. I couldn't get it to melt into the wax at any sensible temperature. The thin LDPE freezer bags I use melt at the waxes smoke point but the HDPE just...
Hi All,
I'm looking for scrap 1/8th shank carbide PCB drills. Dull, snapped, broken, I don't care. I'm just interested in the shanks.
Thanks!
Bob.
$345 ? Seriously? To use for drag engraving? If you've spent the money, use it for normal engraving with a rotating cutter.
I think rotary milling cutters give a better finish on lines over 8...
Contact the guy at www.dragengraving.com and tell him you want a sprung engraving tool for 1/8th tool tips and the tool body has to be 13.8mm
The email address (from the website) is wilson (at)...
Similar price item here http://www.dragengraving.com/
Watch the replacement tips costs. IIRC in the site above, replacement diamond tips are GBP 8 and carbide tips GBP 2.
I've seen people...
OK, two things you mention add up to short tool life....
1) Dremel engraving tool which is not designed to be dragged.
2) More importantly, unsprung tool holder is disastrous for tool life. ...
Are you still using the dremel diamond cutters?
Are they 1/8th " shank? Most of the commercially available diamond drag engravers are 1/8" by 1" 1/8" (3.175 X 28mm).
J&M Diamond do the...
I had a look at Toms thread. He is using a milling/grinding cutter. Good results but not what you're doing.
I'm surprised your diamonds are wearing out on glass.
What I am concerned with is...

BR,
Bob.
How did you get on with your problem?
When you do this engraving are you dragging the tool or moving it up & down rapidly to get the effect?
Hi All,
I recently bought 2 of these on Ebay:

The Int 40 taper on these is no use to me. I'd either...
Thanks for the link. I will check them out.
I'm in the UK though so shipping might be pricey.
There is a company here in the UK that can copy any brush but you need to have an old brush to...
Do not drag engrave in a router with a max collet size smaller than 1/2".
The router bearings will be ruined by the heavy unilatteral side loads imposed by the drag engraving process.

Hi All,
I have accepted an offer from a forum member & this RFQ is now closed.
Thanks for your interest!
Hi All,
+/- 0.5mm on diameter and +/- 2mm on length.
Obviously the reamed hole takes care of itself and the slit can be any convenient size.
Cheers,
Bob.
Hi All,
Title says it all really. I need an 80mm diameter aluminium cylinder, 75mm long with a 1/2" drilled & reamed hole, slit along its length to act as a collar for a 1/2" tool.
Ideally...
Yes, a spring is essential. My engraver has a travel of about 15mm so you can engrave curved objects like belts buckles & pens unless you track that surface using the CAM program as the height...
Hi Nelson,
To answer your questions...
- the depth of cut is controlled by a) the spring preload b) the amount of Z you impose on the machine. Clearly, as you surmised, different materials...
Hi,
I made one for a friend and then made a couple to sell.
There's video of my using it on this site someplace!
