    Re: ZW3D 2022 First Impressions

    10-24-2021

Today I decided to try some of the new configuration manager features. It’s much cleaner now. For this I just made a few “expressions” and configurations to generate a neck loft like...

If you are interested I have BTD (behind tape deck) that can be plugged in if it had an old tape punch allowing dnc.

    ZW3D 2022 First Impressions

ZW3D seems to have given up on the US market. I have been using it for nearly 20 years when it was VX and I started with Version 7. So seeing how there is little activity I thought i would start...

    Re: HSMworks API - NejkovAddin

Interesting. This may come in handy for some 5 axis work I am doing. Would you be willing to translate something if I send you a 5 axis G code?

    Re: Using Fusion 360 CAM

Double check your stock set up. Check that you have the origin in the right spot.
Check your depths. Is your depth defined correctly?
Check the "Stock to Leave" option. Make sure there is zero...
  7. Re: State of Mastercam in 2021. Toughts? Annoyances? Praises?

MasterCAM developers don't even pick a standard of how to pick geometry in their toolpaths dialogues. They sure aren't working on making it "user friendly" for anyone.

    Re: milling supper thin material.

Holding down would be fun. How would I do that.....

I would probably put a bit of lacquer or water based glue on a flat piece of spoil and press it down like one is gilding something, cut it,...

    Re: milling supper thin material.

The customer is always right :) . If they want .024 faced down, charge accordingly. Let a 100 job become a 1000 job.

However I think they will reconsider when presented with the option.

Re: HSMworks Adding a second Op?

I have had many problems with the "fillet" tool path. I finally gave up and drive on the center of a tool and create a wireframe contour to drive the cutter.
  12. Re: State of Mastercam in 2021. Toughts? Annoyances? Praises?

The interface is as horrible as ever. It is terrible working in 4k screens with a lot of problems with fonts and icons. Licensing is still a pain. And COME ON Mastercam!!! After all this time...
  13. Re: Trapezoidal Coarse Thread DIN 103 in Mastercam

Drive the cutter on the center of the tool and run on a wireframe helix.
  14. Re: Making multiple cuts in one program but some aren't the right size.

Is your code putting out the diameter offset? (G40) If so turn off your radius offset or set you tool radii compensations to "0" in your CNC controller. Another thing to check is the contour tool...

    Re: Motor shaft collet chuck

There is so much to consider. NEMA 34 is a physical size of a motor. Not the power of a motor. You also need to calculate how you will actuate your z axis. Ball screw? ACME screw? Belt drive? ...

    Thanks for sharing.

That has to be one of the shortest 5 axis gantries I have ever seen.

Heck I was planning to go there and would have stopped in for free. But thanks to our Chinese friends.... Zoom or skype is it. Been using SW since 98.

    Re: Star points

Which CNC package are you using. There are a few setting to use for sharp points. One that may be rounding your corners is "roll around corners." Turn that off and use straight corners or "D"...
  20. Re: Cheap vs expensive collets and nuts for aluminum surface finish?

Buy good ones. You only need a few sizes anyway. All those weird sets go by 32nds or even 64ths. How often has anyone used a 17/32 endmill for anything?

Re: making sure before I place the order

Looks like a world of frustration with that spindle. Is there no option for a direct drive spindle? I suppose it all depends on your application.

    Re: Thermwood Mach conversion?

A machine like that is limited by its size, not the controller. Any control in the late 90s will be just fine as is. You could probably still get someone to completely calibrate the Thermwood...

Re: quick question regarding solidworks cam

The unfortunate answer is Featureworks (which is driving Camworks) stinks.
Manually program your parts and you will save A LOT of headache rather then trying to rely on feature detection.
