    Re: madcam simulator

I realize this is pretty old, but something you can look at is the "Cut-link distance" in Tool..Speed/Settings. If this is too large, the tool path will link separate cuts without using the safe z...
  2. Re: Simulator does not save voxel size resolution

Nothing? This is with MC 6 SR5.
  3. Simulator does not save voxel size resolution

The default simulator voxel resolution seems pretty coarse. After I change it in the simulator in Options..Advanced, it is reset to 0.02 if I close the simulator.

Re: No cuts seen in simulator with MC 6 SR4

I've discovered my problem. With the "Draw model" option checked, I did not see that material was removed because the model was always shown. So user error.

But it does make me wonder when it...

No cuts seen in simulator with MC 6 SR4

Using a 3 axis machine and a pocket cut, when I run the simulator, the tool moves correctly but the model does not show any of the cuts. Thanks for any help.

    Defining 2.5D paths

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out a good set of choices for machining a simple 2.5D part. I don't understand what a typical set of machining choices for this would be. I would...
  8. Re: In the Post Processor, what are the units for *RAPID_FEED*?

I'm not comparing the time the post processor reports to actual machine time. I'm comparing the reported rapid time to the reported cut time of my part. It's telling me my rapid time is TEN TIMES...
  9. Re: In the Post Processor, what are the units for *RAPID_FEED*?

My current theory is that *RAPID_FEED* is in millimeters/minute. Maybe the intention is that *FEED_UNIT* and *FEED_SCALE* be used to convert to inches/minute if that is required, as in my case. The...
  10. Re: In the Post Processor, what are the units for *RAPID_FEED*?

With the following settings, I get 12 minutes of materials cuts and 2 hours, 54 minutes of rapid traverses. The gcode has feedrates of between 2 and 10.

    *RAPID_FEED*
    10
    *FEED_UNIT*
    F"feed"...
  11. Re: In the Post Processor, what are the units for *RAPID_FEED*?

Thanks for persevering. I have a small Taig mill. My cutting feed rates are in the range of 10 inches/minute. Rapids are around twice that. I have set *RAPID_FEED* to 10 and *FEED_UNIT* to min...
  12. Re: In the Post Processor, what are the units for *RAPID_FEED*?

Thanks, but I don't think that's it. *RAPID_FEED* is used only by the post processor to calculate the time spent doing rapid feeds. It is not used in the gcode. I set it to 2 and the result...

I have the same problem. The files are fine, but in Options..Machine, the Tool Library and Post Processor locations can't be saved. In the Post Processor dialog, there are no Post Processor choices.

In the Post Processor, what are the units for *RAPID_FEED*?

Good idea. I'll do that. Thanks.
  16. Re: How to have postprocessor output tool definition comments for CutViewer

Here's an excellent reason for simulating the g-code:

When selecting a tool "It is possible to change the parameters before clicking OK for loading the cutter without overwriting the saved tool in...

    Re-machining questions

    1. In Planar, Zlevel and Contour Re-machining, if I pick a flat end mill from the folder icon in "Previous cutter dimensions", it populates the radius input with a non-zero value. Why is that? ...
  18. Re: How to have postprocessor output tool definition comments for CutViewer

I didn't think about it before your reply, but since the post-processing hasn't even happened before the madCAM simulator runs, madCAM isn't interpreting g-code in its simulator. I think that makes...
  19. Re: How to have postprocessor output tool definition comments for CutViewer

I am also considering whether I need something besides madCAM's simulator. The best argument is that it provides an independent check of the resulting G-code. If madCAM makes a mistake creating the...

Re: Tool cuts through features in pocket

Joakim explained that the issue was due to my "Cut-link distance" being too large (2.5). For a 0.03125" cutter, he suggested 0.015 and that solved the problem.

Tool cuts through features in pocket

I am trying to cut a pocket with some raised features inside of it which are the same height as the bulk material surface. If I do this using "From boundary curves", I can't select a step down. ...

Re: Does recalculate work for drill paths?

This looks like a bug. Frequently after selecting Recalculate Toolpath, and then selecting a drill path, nothing happens. Selecting a mill path to recalculate always works correctly and after the...
