    Re: Turning a sphere

I cannot give much more explanation other than what I included with the pictures in an earlier post. The holder is the cylindrical part with an external thread and a replaceable aluminum insert. The...
  2. Re: Speeds and feeds for 1018 steel are chipping my endmills!

You may be going a bit fast. At 3250 rpm with a four flute cutter taking .001" per tooth you need about 18ipm, i.e. About half the speed you have (if my math is correct).

Re: Pipe Thread milling on VF3

Don't do this on anything critical such as very high pressure piping. A tapered thread mill doing a single interpolation will make a thread that looks tapered to the naked eye but it is not a true...

Re: Cycle time comparison - VF2 VS. DM-1

Take a copy of your program to your HFO or send it to Haas in Oxnard and have them run it on each machine. You do not need tools or parts just the machining running a full cycle.

Re: Good source for mid grade tool holders - CAT 50

You are not buying an "entry to mid level machine" why are you cheaping out on the tool holders?

Your spindle will be much happier, now and in ten years time, if the only tool holders you have...

Re: Lifting a Haas VF3 off a flatbed semi

Lifting a VF3 with a 20,000lb forklift is childsplay, provided you have long forks. A GR510 is much more fun.

The video is in this thread:...
  7. Re: VF-2 Won't feed IPM, will rapid tap and run spindle

Did you try using the feed over ride keys? Rigid tapping ignores any over ride so it could be that a faulty over ride key is giving a spurious signal that locks the control.
  8. Re: Haas spindle time not correct. Reading way high.

The motion hours are also spurious; it is impossible to have motion hours larger than servo on hours because the servos cause the motion.
  9. Re: Haas VF3-SSYT 40 taper rigid enough for mostly stainless steel machining?

That is a good question and I think the answer is a qualified yes; although you might get people who say no.

The qualification is that with modern tooling and CAM hard to machine materials can be...

Re: Brand New Haas VF3 and Pricing

You say " you know the prices are substantially inflated they want $1695 for 750mb of memory ... but to some extent this is not the case. The base price is for a minimalist machine which can allow...

Re: Super Mini not homing properly

You have been told the cause of the problem but nobody mentioned how to get the X axis off the hard stop at the end of the ballscrew; I am guessing that is how the machine is sitting while you are...

    Re: 4ax opins & pics

No the rotary stays inside off to the right.

I just noticed you mention VF2/3: For changing the rotary on our VF2 I modified an engine hoist so the feet could straddle the base of the machine.

Have you unplugged everything and then reconnected? The encoder signals are logic level current and voltage and the connections are just as prone to developing bad contact due to oxidation as any...

Re: Haas SMM2 3 PH Rotary Inverter

I think the 2.5 multiplier for starting current and safety is based mainly on large induction motors which will draw...

The floor toolpaths that show the tight little swirls, are they trochoidial paths? (I don't think my spelling is correct.)

    Re: TL1 CRASHED

It sounds like you have moved the headstock. You can check whether the face of the chuck is parallel to the X axis using an indicator, and you will probably find it is out the same as your X taper.

Before doing anything else just increase your coolant concentration. If you are using 5% go to 10%; if you are already at 10% try 15%. The coolant itself is probably not causing the rusting but if...

Look into getting a screw compressor. These are very quiet but something like 3 or 4 times the cost of a reciprocal.

Re: 2006 Haas TL1 cross slide to spindle centerline
