  1. Re: Spindle encoder with varispeed head - backlash?

I upgraded to a Milltronics VMC instead... for the Lagun, I've just been replacing the belt as needed, it acts as a shock absorber for when I do dumb things with it occasionally.

    Re: Connecting a 4th axis - Centurion VI/VM16

I think you might be confusing clamp torque with rotary torque.

I know this is kind of an experiment, that's part of what makes it interesting. The newer Tsudakoma tables are direct drive like...

    Re: Connecting a 4th axis - Centurion VI/VM16

I've been considering this. The bearings in this motor are designed specifically to do this, although machining may or may not have been beyond the original design.

The motor specs are on page...

    Re: Connecting a 4th axis - Centurion VI/VM16

Not really possible. The motor IS the rotary table, so that would defeat the purpose entirely.

    Thanks, though.

    Re: Connecting a 4th axis - Centurion VI/VM16

Thanks, I'll have a look. My control seems to have been upgraded to an SBC or otherwise is on the newer side of hardware revisions if that matters. If the chips are missing, I'm pretty comfortable...

    Re: Connecting a 4th axis - Centurion VI/VM16

I don't have a picture handy, but the motor is a Yokogawa DR1400A direct drive servo with a Litton Industries UR1A-400N drive. It's an older servo, I think surplus from its previous life in a...

    Re: Connecting a 4th axis - Centurion VI/VM16

My bad, actually... I looked it up, and the manufacturer claims +/- 30 arc seconds.

It doesn't have an encoder exactly, it has a resolver that feeds back to a position loop in the servo drive. ...

    Re: Connecting a 4th axis - Centurion VI/VM16

There is no belt drive and no gearing. This table is essentially a large high torque/low rpm direct drive servo with a mounting plate attached. It was originally shop made for a factory purpose -...

    Re: Connecting a 4th axis - Centurion VI/VM16

I do have AC drives. I'll review the parameter sheet for the ones I need to change - that's probably in the printed manual that came with the VMC. It's a direct drive 4th, so no gear ratio, or...

    Re: Connecting a 4th axis - Centurion VI/VM16

I do have it... I can see how I'd connect the wiring, but is there anything that has to be set in the control, like encoder counts, or to enable the axis?

    Thanks!

    Connecting a 4th axis - Centurion VI/VM16

I have a 4th axis with a servo drive available and I'm wondering if I can connect it to my VM16 with Centurion VI. There are two sets of axis connectors available in the electronics, although I...
  12. Re: VM16F - upgrade VFD/spindle - anyone done it?

    Thanks for replying.

Yeah, I am running on single phase, although my understanding is that the VFD would just draw more current through the other two legs to handle it? If I'm getting reduced...
  13. VM16F - upgrade VFD/spindle - anyone done it?

    Hi, all;

I've been fully switching my workflow to use my VM16F after weaning myself off the knee mill I've had.

After learning the machine, I'm wondering what effect upgrading the spindle VFD...

VM16 minimum height with spindle lowered?

    Hello -

I'm in the process of acquiring a VM16, and I'm planning on putting it in my heated garage.

It's barely going to fit in the door width wise, so it's going to be tricky to get in...

Re: Can anyone ID this DC servo?

I've done that, and it's about a 40V/krpm motor. From that it's either an 80V (2k rpm) or 100V(2500 rpm) motor.

The diameter of it compared to e.g. Baldor DC servos would lead me to believe it's...

Can anyone ID this DC servo?

I have a couple of servos I'd like to use for something. The problem with them is that they're older DC servos and the nameplates are long gone - they've been repainted and/or cleaned away.

    I can...

Re: lagun 250 cnc mill parts manual

The manual for the 310 that's out there is pretty similar... is there a specific question you have about the mill?
  22. Re: CNC lathe build, steel frame, HIWIN rails and epoxy granite headstock

Roadside, I'm going to expand a bit on what Eldon suggested.

Because you're welding the metal (and machining it) to create your lathe, you're creating internal stresses in the metal. I'm assuming...

Re: My third build, all steel this time!
